Titans’ Chigoziem Okonkwo named a breakout candidate for 2023

Quietly, the Tennessee Titans had one of the more impressive rookies in the entire NFL in 2022 in Maryland product and tight end, Chigoziem Okonkwo.

Taken in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL draft, Okonkwo led all rookie tight ends in receiving yards (450), broken tackles (seven) and was tied in touchdowns (three).

The young tight end was among the most explosive at his position and averaged 2.61 yards per route run, which led all tight ends and was ranked third in the NFL behind only Justin Jefferson and Tyreek Hill.

With Okonkwo looking like he has star potential, Pro Football Focus’ Sam Monson has wisely chosen him as the Titans’ breakout candidate for 2023.

There were few more dynamic playmakers in a limited sample size than Titans tight end Chig Okonkwo. He averaged a massive 2.61 yards per route run, which led the NFL at the position. He caught 32-of-45 passes thrown his way and averaged 7.8 yards after the catch. With the Titans offense in flux, he should be in line for a much bigger role next season.

While Okonkwo’s year was no doubt impressive, it could’ve been even better if former offensive coordinator Todd Downing had realized he had such a talented player on his offense in the first half of the season.

Nevertheless, getting Chig more involved must be a major point of emphasis for whoever takes Downing’s job. If the new OC can do that, then Monson’s prediction should become a reality.
