Titans CB Logan Ryan breaks news of his injury on social media

The Tennessee Titans have suffered a spate of injuries as come down the final stretch of the regular season — one that could still end with a spot in the AFC playoffs.

In Week 14 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, starting right tackle Jack Conklin and tight end Jonnu Smith suffered season-ending injuries.

And in the Titans’ Week 15 shutout of the New York Giants, they saw two defense stalwarts go down late: rookie linebacker Sharif Finch and veteran corner Logan Ryan. There’s no word yet on the severity of Finch’s injury, but Ryan took to social media to break his own bad news.

Ryan took to Twitter and Instagram to announce that his fourth-quarter injury is a season-ending broken left fibula.

“I poured my heart and soul into this season so it’s unfortunate,” Ryan wrote. “However, anyone who knows me knows how relentlessly I will train to come back a better player with fewer weaknesses. I am proud of how I played, I’m proud of how my team is playing, and I’m proud I was able to walk off the field with a broken leg.”

Ryan added that he’ll continue to support the team and coach the defensive backs while Tennessee tries to make the playoffs. He had an impressive four sacks and five quarterback hits from the corner spot this season.

Replacement will have a high bar

While the team hasn’t yet made a roster move, Titans coach Mike Vrabel indicated to reporters that Ryan’s replacement has a high bar to meet.

“Whoever plays in there is going to be expected to do a good job,” Vrabel said. “[LeShaun] Sims went in there yesterday for him and did a good job … It’s what pro football is — at any level, at the college level and high school — if the guy in front of you goes down, you are expected to be ready to go and be ready to play at a high level.”

Raised money for animal rescue

The 27-year-old Ryan, a third-round pick of the New England Patriots in 2013 who signed a three-year, $30 million free-agent deal with the Titans in 2017, noted that he also raised $12,000 for animal rescue efforts with his 76 tackles.

At the beginning of the season, he announced that he would be donating $126 for every tackle he made to his Ryan Animal Rescue Foundation, and received other pledges as well.

After announcing his injury, pet food manufacturer Pedigree tweeted to Ryan that it’s kicking in $5,000 to his foundation, thanking him for being “a champion for dogs.”

Earlier this month, Ryan gave Christmas to 26 children (he wears No. 26) from the Boys & Girls Club.

He told Nashville radio station 104.5 The Zone that he wanted to “flood” people with good news, because for every player like former Kansas City running back Kareem Hunt, who has been involved in no fewer than three off-field physical altercations this year, there are 50 NFL players like him, trying to do good things and make a positive impact on communities.
