Titans 33 Seahawks 27 Photo Recap

The game began as a defensive battle for both teams as they combined to boot eight punts in the first quarter.

With 1:23 left in the first quarter, Seattle cornerback Richard Sherman held Eric Decker as safety Kam Chancellor slid over to make an interception. Sherman’s temper got the best of him as he was called for three penalties on that single play. After being given his first warning of being disqualified, he still kept jawing with the refs.

After a field goal by the Titans and another punt by Seattle, the Titans took possession again. Seven plays into this drive, Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota scrambled out of bounds at the Seahawks 36 yard line. After stepping out of bounds, Sherman clocked Mariota with a huge late hit. This was right in front of the Titans players on the sideline. After some pushing and jawing by both teams, the refs called four offsetting penalties. Sherman was not ejected from the game despite the prior warning.

After another Titans field goal, the Seahawks punted again. Their star quarterback, Russell Wilson, fumbled for the second time. Adoree Jackson would return this punt 80 yards for a beautiful touchdown. However, David Fluellen was called for a block in the back penalty to reverse the outcome.

After a ‘three n out’ drive, the Titans punted. This is when Wilson started to glow. The Seahawks star shook off six punts and two fumbles, to lead the Hawks to a quick touchdown to take a 7-6 lead. The Titans answered by going right back down the field in one minute and three seconds to kick a field goal and end the half with a 9-7 lead.

Seahawks rookie running back Chris Carson put the team onto his back for the opening drive of the first drive- running four times and finishing up with a catch for a touchdown.

Marcus Mariota hit wide receiver Rishard Matthews for a 55 yard touchdown. The Seahawks punted. Then Mariota led the Titans to another score. This time, Jonnu Smith lined up as a fullback and went uncovered as he left the backfield for an easy catch and run.

Despite some incredible efforts to keep plays alive, the Seahawks punted. With 1:49 left in the third quarter, DeMarco Murray got two outstanding blocks by fullback Jalston Fowler to race 75 yards down the field for a touchdown.

Murray’s touchdown put the Titans up 30-14 and the game seemed all but over with. However, Russell Wilson was not done finding ways to somehow keep plays alive by finding his favorite receiver Doug Baldwin. He quickly led the Seahawks up the field and completed a touchdown pass to Luke Wilson. Titans nickel linebacker Jayon Brown seemed to suffer a concussion. He was evaluated, passed the concussion protocol, and returned to the game. Wilson seemed well aware and went after Brown by throwing to his tight ends. After a Titans punt came more fancy footwork by Wilson. He was without his favorite receiver due to a groin injury but kept finding Jimmy Graham. This drive stalled, however, on the Titans 28-yard line on a failed 4th down conversion.

Derrick Henry and Jalston Fowler had been wearing down the Seahawks defense. The two bruising backs led by the Titans offensive line were simply too much for the Hawks defense. On the next drive, Terry Robiske sent Murray in a single-back set. The Titans punted shortly after.

Wilson was magnificent yet again. He led the Seahawks down the field for a touchdown by Paul Richardson. Despite starting with 6 punts by the offense, Wilson threw for 373 yards and four touchdowns. After an onsides kick went right to Delanie Walker, the Titans ran a few plays and ultimately ran the clock out to secure a 33-27 victory.

After the game, Taylor Lewan had some choice words for Richard Sherman.

. @TaylorLewan77 had some postgame words (but we muted them).
