This week's Blue Federal Credit Union Athlete of the Week award is heading across I-25 to Timnath!

Timnath girls track and field's Natalie Washburn took top honors in the Fort Collins area for May 12-18 after winning two state titles and helping the Cubs win a girls team title.

The Cubs junior repeated as an individual state champion in the 2A girls 800 meters and ran the anchor leg on their 4x800 relay unit that also repeated as state champs.

Washburn was also the anchor leg on a runner-up 4x400 relay squad and took third in the individual 400 meters, setting a new PR in the latter.

Timnath's Natalie Washburn crosses the finish line in first place at the 2A girls 800 meter race during the Colorado track and field state championships on May 17 at Jeffco Stadium in Lakewood.

Timnath's team title was the first team state championship for the new middle-high school since opening in 2022.

With this spring's trophy haul, Washburn is inarguably the most decorated athlete in the young school's history.

She is the fifth Timnath athlete and second Cubs runner to win Blue FCU Athlete of the Week honors this school year, joining volleyball players Jersey McCollum and Aubrianna Gerdes, boys soccer player Seb Chavarria and teammate Izzy Schimmelpfennig.

Washburn rallied the Timnath community and won the fan poll with a heavy majority (64%) of the 26,315 votes cast.

That bested other standout performances from her fellow nominees:

  • Gino Maccarini, Fort Collins baseball (runner-up with 25.1%)

  • Abbi Beld, Fossil Ridge girls golf

  • Isabel Allori, Liberty Common girls track and field

  • Ethan Fillinger, Windsor baseball

The Blue Federal Credit Union Athlete of the Week series features five nominees every Monday, with voting at Coloradoan.com until 11 p.m. Wednesday and the winner named on Thursday.
