Timeline set for Franklin Heights' move from OCC to Central Buckeye League
The Central Buckeye League on Tuesday officially announced the addition of Franklin Heights, although the Falcons will join in stages.
Franklin Heights, which has been in the OCC since 1981, will join the CBL in all sports except football for the 2024-25 school year. The Falcons will play football in the OCC through the 2024 season and join the CBL for 2025.
Franklin Heights sought to leave the OCC to join similarly-sized schools. It was extended an invitation in the spring, contingent upon its release from OCC commitments. That was granted June 20, according to a CBL release Tuesday.
This iteration of the CBL, which is in its first school year, consists of Bexley, Buckeye Valley, Columbus Academy, Columbus School for Girls, Grandview Heights, Ready, Whitehall-Yearling and Worthington Christian. Grandview and Worthington Christian are playing independent schedules in football but are full members of the league in all other sports.
A previous version of the CBL was disbanded in 1991.
Franklin Heights is in the OCC-Capital with Big Walnut, Canal Winchester, Delaware Hayes, Dublin Scioto, Westerville North, Westerville South and Worthington Kilbourne. Falcons teams have struggled in league play in recent years, going winless in fall sports a year ago and earning a combined two wins in the winter and spring seasons.
The South-Western City School District’s other three high schools, Central Crossing, Grove City and Westland, will remain in the OCC.
