'Time will tell' whether Alabama football QB Dylan Lonergan also plays baseball for Tide

Many recruits play multiple sports in high school, but not all excel to the level Dylan Lonergan did.

Lonergan was a four-star quarterback (247Sports Composite) and a four-star baseball prospect (PrepStar Magazine) out of Brookwood High School in Snellville, Georgia.

Lonergan is a true freshman with the football team this fall, who drew praise from Nick Saban and other onlookers of preseason scrimmages. Will he also play baseball for the Crimson Tide?

New Alabama baseball coach Rob Vaughn said "time will tell" multiple times Monday.

"We've had some conversations about that," Vaughn said. "We've talked to Dylan. Dylan's talked with coach a lot over there. Obviously, football comes first for him. A lot of that, the plan is for him to come over in January. That's been the conversation is for him to come over in January and start working with us and doing some things with us. I think time will tell on that. That guy starts getting too many snaps this fall, things can change. Everything can change."

Vaughn said "good conversations" have occurred about having a plan in place for when the time is right.

"As of today, we're moving forward like yeah he'll show up in January," Vaughn said. "I think time will tell based on what happens this fall whether he does, whether he doesn't. We'll be ready and we'll be fine either way. We're excited about the prospect of Dylan potentially coming over in January."

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound freshman was Prep Baseball Report's No. 9 right-handed pitcher from his state and No. 55 overall in the country.

It's clear he could end up making an impact on the football field in the not-so-distant future. Saban called Lonergan a "talented guy" during fall camp.

"He's done really well," Saban said in August. "He's shows great ability, great potential."
