Time to shine: Top Greater Taunton high school sports performances for Jan. 22-28

TAUNTON— Another week of high school sports action is upon us in the Greater Taunton area.

Last week, several area teams extended their winning streaks while two area wrestling teams came home with tournament wins and local track and field athletes performed well as their respective divisional relays.

Here's a look at the Greater Taunton area's top performing high school athletes from the fourth week of January.

Sunday

Boys Basketball

Noah Perry-Lewis led the way for Bridgewater-Raynham (6-8, 1-3 SEC) with 18 points while Cason Faulk had 15 and Deshawn Faulk had 11 as the Trojans beat Brookline 71-66 at home in non-league action.

Boys Indoor Track

The 4x200 meter relay team of William Dalton, Matty Suprenard, Seamus Sullivan and Joel DaSilva were the top finishers for Dighton-Rehoboth, coming in seventh with a time of 1:36.03 as the Falcons competed at the MSTCA Small School Coaches Invitational at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston. Tim Zibrida was the top D-R finisher in field events, coming in eighth in the shot put with a top throw of 42'11".

Girls Indoor Track

Ryann Welzel finished fourth in the shot put with a personal best throw of 34'5.5" at the MSTCA Small School Coaches Invitational at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.

Saturday

Boys Hockey

Cam Perry, Nick Falcione, Cole Tammaro and Thomas Leger all found the back of the net for Southeastern/Bristol-Plymouth (11-3, 9-0 MAC) as the Hawks shut out Blue Hills 4-0 on the road in MAC action to clinch at least a share of the MAC title. Jack Kelly made 16 saves to earn the shutout for the co-op.

Girls Hockey

Abby Gropman scored the lone goal for West Bridgewater/East Bridgewater/Bridgewater-Raynham/Bristol-Plymouth/Southeastern/Middleboro (6-7), assisted by Grace Ogilvie, as the Wild Vikings fell 4-1 to Bishop Fenwick on the road.

Boys Indoor Track

Dmitrius Shearrion won the 300 meter with a personal best time of 0:35.11 and finished sixth in the 55 meter dash with a personal best time of 0:06.64 as Taunton (1-4, 1-4 Hockomock) competed at the MSTCA Large School Coaches Invitational at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston. Ancil Alexander was the top Tiger finisher in field events, coming in eighth in the shot put with a personal best throw of 46'.

Marqui Galvin was the top finisher for Bridgewater-Raynham (2-0, 2-0 SEC), coming in ninth in the long jump with the personal best distance of 20'9" as the Trojans competed at the MSTCA Large School Coaches Invitational at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston. The 4x800 meter relay team of Anthony Matta, Riley Frisch, Dan Leet and Ryan Hall were the top B-R finishers in track events, coming in 11th with a time of 8:36.37.

Girls Indoor Track

Grace Inacio was the top finisher for Taunton (1-4, 1-4 Hockomock), coming in 14th in the 300 meter with a personal best time of 0:42.8 as the Tigers competed at the MSTCA Large School Coaches Invitational at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston. Abbey Doherty was the top finisher in field events for Taunton, coming in 22nd in the shot put with a personal best throw of 30'10.5".

Emily Keefe was the top finisher for Bridgewater-Raynham (2-0, 2-0 SEC), coming in 10th in the 600 meter with a time of 1:42.83 as the Trojans competed at the MSTCA Large School Coaches Invitational at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.

Wrestling

Mike Leskoski (120), William Buffington (165), Kingston DaCosta (175), Ethan Harris (190) and Elijah Prophete (215) all won their respective weight classes as Taunton (9-5, 3-2 Hockomock) finished second overall with 226.5 points at the Hockomock League Championship meet at Foxboro High School. Gabe Lesoski (150) and Antonio Maldonado (285) both finished third while John Mandeville (144) and Anthony Viera (157) came in fourth, Brayden Mandeville (132) came in fifth and Cody Truelson (113) finished sixth.

Brent von Magnus (132), Jack Alves (138) and Luke Driscoll (175) won all three of their respective matches as Bridgewater-Raynham beat Lowell 45-36 and Braintree 49-21 but fell 58-21 to Chelmsford in a non-league quad meet at Lowell High School.

Jack Ramondetta (165) won his weight class as Bristol-Plymouth (20-4) finished second overall with 193.5 points at the MVADA Championship at Greater Lowell Technical High School. Jacob Bettencourt (144) finished second while Andrew Daley (132), Nathan Hicks (157) and Elijah Alves (175) came in third, Colby Grenon (106), Brooke Weafer (113) and Matt Keefe (126) came in fourth and Aidan Gardiner (150) and Cullen Woods (215) finished sixth.

Luis Garcia (113), Isaiah Fontaine (132), David Hunt (144), Jonathan Borges (165), Malakai Risotti (175) and Brady Benfeito (285) all won their respective matches as Bristol Aggie/Dighton-Rehoboth fell 40-33 to Scituate in non-league action at Duxbury High School.

Boys Basketball

Dray Thielker led the way for Taunton (10-4, 6-4 Hockomock) with 20 points while Troy Santos and Tyson Carter each had 16 as the Tigers beat King Philip 70-69 at home in Hockomock action. With the win, Taunton has qualified for the Division 1 tournament.

Donte Morris led the way for Bristol-Plymouth (5-7, 2-3 MAC) with 18 points while Zach Branco had eight points and 10 rebounds, Ryan Donovan had seven points and Greg Aisku had six points and nine rebounds as the Craftsmen fell 57-47 at home to Upper Cape Tech in MAC action.

Aidan Marando led the way for Dighton-Rehoboth (6-7, 2-6 SCC) with 25 points while Kensley Macean had 11 as the Falcons beat Seekonk 57-47 on the road in SCC action.

Girls Basketball

Jillian Doherty led the way for Taunton (12-2, 8-2 Hockomock) with 14 points while Taryn Campbell and Cali Melo each had nine as the Tigers beat King Philip 49-45 on the road in Hockomock action.

Boys Hockey

Tre Nadeau and Jamie Vallarelli led the way for Taunton (9-4-1, 4-3-1 Hockomock) with a pair of goals and an assist each while Conner Goranson had a goal and two assists, Travis Cashman had a goal and an assist, Matt Maher had a goal, Breighdyn Simmons and Braden Lachance each had a pair of assists and Owen Hathaway, Drew Nadeau and Jonathan McGrath all recorded assists as the Tigers beat Everett/Revere 7-1 at home in non-league action. Luke Pellerin recorded 21 saves in net for Taunton.

Adam Bastis and Colin Lush both found the back of the net for Dighton-Rehoboth/Seekonk (6-5, 2-3 SCC) while Brett Axon, Liam Blenkush and Anthony D'Aiello all recorded assists as the Falcon Warriors fell 5-2 to Bourne at home in SCC action.

Boys Swimming

Harrison Layden won both the 100 yard butterfly and 500 yard freestyle as Taunton (0-7, 0-6 Hockomock) fell 41-23 to Brockton at home in a non-league dual meet. Eduardo Freitas-Gardinal finished second in both the 100 and 200 yard freestyles while Maddox Chaves finished third in both the 50 and 200 yard freestyles and the relay team of Chaves, Freitas-Gardinal, Layden and Thomas Hunt finished third in both the 200 and 400 yard freestyles.

Bridgewater-Raynham (4-1, 2-1 SEC) defeated Durfee 93-89 on the road in an SEC dual meet.

Girls Swimming

Eliana Gay (100 yard breaststroke and 200 yard individual medley), Abigail Fernandes (50 and 100 yard freestyles) and Megan Viveiros (200 and 500 yard freestyle) were all double winners for Taunton (5-2, 4-2 Hockomock) as the Tigers beat Brockton 56-31 at home in a non-league dual meet. Emma Bradley won the 100 yard backstroke and finished second in the 100 yard freestyle while Rachel Maynard won the 100 yard butterfly and finished third in the 100 yard backstroke, Lizzie Tobolski finished second in both the 50 yard freestyle and 100 yard butterfly, Mila Dafov finished second in the 200 yard individual medley and third in the 100 yard backstroke, Lilia Ballantine finished second in the 200 yard freestyle and Trinity Wilson finished third in the 500 yard freestyle. In relays, the 200 yard medley team of Bradley, Ballantine, Gay and Fernandes won while the 200 yard freestyle team of Fernandes, Tobolski, Bradley and Viveiros won and the 400 yard freestyle team of Viveiros, Maynard, Tobolski and Dafov won. The 200 yard freestyle 'B' team of Dafov, Wilson, Maynard and Gay finished second while the 400 yard freestyle 'B' team of Victoria Tavares, Gabi Taforo, Ballantine and McAloon finished second and the 200 yard medley 'B' team of McAloon, Dara Pereira, Wilson and Tavares finished third.

Bridgewater-Raynham (4-1, 2-1 SEC) defeated Durfee 93-78 on the road in an SEC dual meet.

Boys Basketball

Owen Hale hit back-to-back three-pointers with a minute remaining to help Bristol-Plymouth (5-6, 2-2 MAC) seal a 67-65 win over Tri-County at home in MAC action. Greg Aisku led the way for the Craftsmen with 17 points while Ryan Donovan had 16 and Zack Branco and Donte Morris each had 14.

Girls Basketball

Camden Strandberg led the way for Bridgewater-Raynham (9-3, 3-1 SEC) with a double double of 21 points and 12 rebounds, along with a pair of blocks, while Brenna Woodbury had a double double of 13 points and 10 rebounds, along with four steals, and Olivia Roy had a double double of 12 points and 14 rebounds, along with three assists and two steals, as the Trojans beat Dracut 63-38 on the road in non-league action.

Emma Ericson led the way for Bristol-Plymouth (2-9, 0-4 MAC) with 13 points as the Craftsmen fell 36-31 to Tri-County on the road in MAC action.

Boys Hockey

Cam Tomaszycki made 37 saves as Taunton (8-4-1, 4-3-1 Hockomock) fell 7-0 to Canton at home in Hockomock action.

Bobby Quill led the way for Bridgewater-Raynham (1-13) with a goal and an assist while Ronan O'Malley and Dante Tudor each recorded assists and Alex Egras made 22 saves as the Trojans fell 5-2 to Bishop Feehan on the road.

Thomas Leger led the way for Southeastern/Bristol-Plymouth (10-3, 8-0 MAC) with a hat trick of both goals and assists while Cam Wilbur had a pair of goals and assists and Luke Martineau, Cole Tammaro and Nick Falcione all found the back of the net as the Hawks beat Upper Cape Tech 8-3 at home in MAC action.

Girls Hockey

Mansfield/Oliver Ames/Foxboro/Taunton (4-5-2, 2-2-0 Hockomock) played Medway to a scoreless tie on the road in non-league action.

Boys Swimming

Blake Couto finished third in both the 200 yard freestyle and 500 yard freestyle while Maddox Chaves finished third in both the 50 yard freestyle and 100 yard freestyle and Harrison Layden finished third in both the 100 yard butterfly and 100 yard backstroke, recording personal best times in each, as Taunton (0-6, 0-6 Hockomock) fell 51-21 to Mansfield at home in Hockomock action. The relay team of Chaves, Eduardo Freitas-Gardinal, Layden and Couto finished third in both the 200 and 400 yard freestyle relays.

Girls Swimming

Emma Bradley won both the 50 yard freestyle and 100 yard backstroke as Taunton (4-2, 4-2 Hockomock) beat Mansfield 55-39 at home in Hockomock action. Abigail Fernandes won the 100 yard freestyle and finished second in the 200 yard freestyle while Megan Viveiros won the 200 yard individual medley and finished second in the 100 yard freestyle. Eliana Gay finished second in the 50 yard freestyle and third in the 100 yard backstroke while Lilia Ballantine finished second in the 100 yard breaststroke and third in the 200 yard individual medley, Mila Dafov finished second in the 100 yard butterfly and third in the 100 yard backstroke and Rachel Maynard finished second in the 500 yard freestyle and third in the 200 yard freestyle. In relays, the 200 yard medley team of Bradley, Ballantine, Gay and Fernandes won while the 200 yard medley 'B' team of Maynard, Elizabeth Tobolski, Viveiros and Dafov finished third. The 200 yard freestyle team of Fernandes, Maynard, Gay and Tobolski also won while the 400 yard freestyle team of Viveiros, Dafov, Tobolski, and Bradley finished second and he 400 yard freestyle 'B' team of Morgan McAloon, Kayleigh McMan, Victoria Tavares and Trinity Wilson finished third.

Troy Santos led the way for Taunton (9-4, 5-4 Hockomock League) with 23 points while Cyrus Morissette had 18 as the Tigers beat Oliver Ames 64-45 at home in Hockomock action.

Aidan Marando led the way for Dighton-Rehoboth (5-7, 2-6 South Coast Conference) with 15 points while Kensley Macean had 11 as the Falcons beat Case 58-41 at home in SCC action.

Girls Basketball

Chelsea Bousquet led the way for Taunton (11-2, 7-2 Hockomock) with nine points while Taryn Campbell had seven and Cali Melo had six as the Tigers fell 61-35 to Oliver Ames on the road in Hockomock action.

Lucy Latour led the way for Dighton-Rehoboth (1-13, 0-8 SCC) with 16 points as the Falcons fell 56-35 to Case on the road in SCC action.

Gymnastics

Lily Moreira won the beam with a career high of 9.45 while also winning the bars with a 9.1 and finishing second on the floor with an 8.9 as Bridgewater-Raynham/West Bridgewater (4-1, 4-1 Cranberry) beat Cohasset/Norwell 142.85-129.3 at home in Cranberry action. Natalia Flores won the vault with a joint career high of 9.45 while Cecilia Meoli won the floor with a 9.1, finished second on the beam with a 9.3 and finished third on the bars with an 8.5. Lindsay Woodbury finished second in the vault with a 9.35 while Lexi Fabrizio finished third in the vault with a 9.1, Brianna Buckley finished second on the bars with an 8.7 and Grace LaRose finished third on the floor with an 8.8.

Wrestling

Bristol Aggie/Dighton-Rehoboth defeated Bristol-Plymouth (20-4) 44-30 in an MAC dual meet at B-P. Scoring wins for the co-op were Griffin Machie (106), Luis Garcia (113), Brennan Chisholm (120), Ryan Moitoso (138), Josh Hoskins (150), Jack Swan (157), Malakai Risotti (175), Derek Corvelo (215) and Brady Benfeito (285). As for the Craftsmen, Matt Keefe (126), Andrew Daley (132), Jacob Bettencourt (144), Jack Ramondetta (165) and Jarret Marrone (190) all won their respective matches.

Donte Morris led the way for Bristol-Plymouth (4-6, 1-2 Mayflower Athletic Conference) with 25 points while Ryan Donovan had 19 and Greg Aisku had eight as the Craftsmen beat South Shore Tech 64-45 on the road in MAC action.

Girls Basketball

Emma Ericson led the way for Bristol-Plymouth (2-8, 0-3 MAC) with 17 points as the Craftsmen fell 45-28 to Upper Cape Tech at home in MAC action.

Boys Hockey

Bobby Quill, Sean Nasiff and Nate Adduci all found the back of the net while Jack Dion recorded an assist as Bridgewater-Raynham (1-12) fell 6-3 to North Attleboro at home in the MLK Day Tournament conciliation game.

Gymnastics

Lily Moreira won the all around with a total score of 36.6, including a joint career high of 9.4 on the bars and a career high of 9.5 on the floor, as Bridgewater-Raynham/West Bridgewater (3-1, 3-1 Cranberry League) beat Somerset Berkley 142.35-128.15 at home in Cranberry action. Lindsay Woodbury won the vault with a career high of 9.5 and the beam with a joint career high of 9.4 while finishing third in both the floor (8.7) and bars (8.4). Cecilia Meoli finished second in both the beam (9.2) and bars (8.4) and third on the floor (8.7) while Mia Witkus finished second in the vault with a season high of 9.1.
