Tigers join D-backs in bringing back bullpen cart

The Detroit Tigers have joined the Arizona Diamondbacks in bringing back the bullpen cart for the 2018 season.

The Tigers had a cart ready to go for relievers of either team when they faced the Pittsburgh Pirates in their season opener Friday afternoon. Perhaps disappointing for those in attendance, no pitcher opted to use the service to get to the mound.

Which is a minor upset, considering the game went 13 innings and featured 13 different relievers between the two teams.

Prior to this season, the bullpen cart was last seen in the majors with the Milwaukee Brewers in 1995.

The Tigers are opening the season with a standard golf cart but hope to have a specialized cart in place by their next homestand beginning April 13 against the New York Yankees.

No Tigers reliever has come forth and said he will use it, while manager Ron Gardenhire bluntly said, ""I'm not driving it."

The bullpen cart also went unused when the Diamondbacks hosted the Colorado Rockies in their season opener Thursday.
