Tiger Woods makes six birdies in third-round 66 at British Open, closes in on lead - Video

It’s called Moving Day for a reason.

Tiger Woods started Round 3 six shots back of the lead, tied for 29th place at the British Open at Carnoustie. After a terrific third-round 66 that included six birdies, Woods sits four shots behind co-leaders Jordan Spieth, Xander Schauffele and Kevin Kisner. He is in a tie for sixth place.

Woods shot a 33 on the front nine

Starting the day at even par through the first two rounds of the tournament, Woods made his first birdie of the day at the fourth hole.

He then made a two-putt birdie at the lengthy par-five sixth hole to get two two-under.

Woods capped his front-nine 33 with this long birdie on No. 9. He gave this one his signature fist pump as the crowd went crazy.

Woods added three more birdies on the back

Woods then fired a beautiful second shot into the 10th hole, one of the finest shots of the tournament so far. He tapped in for his fourth birdie of the round.

Then, on the short par-four 11th, Woods struck a beautiful tee shot and got up-and-down from just left of the green, using the putter twice. He has birdied this hole all three days of the tournament. With his third straight birdie of the round, Woods got to 5-under on the round and on the tournament.

Woods wasn’t done yet. After pars at 12 and 13, Woods hit a solid second shot into the par-five 14th. His eagle putt slid just by to the right, and he tapped in for a straightforward birdie, his sixth of the day.

Woods gave one back at the tough 16th, though. Woods’ iron off the tee looked near perfect but just barely caught the slope to the right of the green and fell into a collection area. After leaving his uphill putt several feet short, Woods’ just missed his par attempt inches right. His first bogey of the day left him at five-under.

Woods made a solid par at 17 before flirting with disaster at 18. He nearly sent his tee shot into the burn, avoiding the hazard by a matter of inches. After a layup, he hit a terrific third shot to about three feet and tapped in for par, capping a third-round 66.
