Tiftarea Panthers open official football drills

Jul. 27—CHULA — The heat is on, both in the sky and in the race to get ready for the upcoming 2023 high school football season at Tiftarea Academy.

Tuesday, July 25, marked the first official day of conditioning on the GIAA calendar. Players were allowed to don helmets and shoulder pads, but no tackilng is allowed until Aug. 1.

Tiftarea has a scrimmage set for Aug. 11 at Southwest Georgia Academy, but head coach Erik Soliday said they are working on putting together an intrasquad scrimmage for home fans. The regular season starts Aug. 18 in Chula against Bulloch Academy.

Soliday reported 41 players out for the team this year, with the Panthers adding a few during the summer.
