Thursday's Top Prep Performers: Oak Park teams win first Coastal Canyon cross country meet

Highlights from Thursday in high school sports:

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

  • Katarina Modrzejewski was the individual champion with a time of 18:44.1 to lead Oak Park to a first-place team finish at the first Coastal Canyon League meet of the season. Michelle Vu finished sixth in 20:11.4 for the Eagles (45). Kristen Gibbel placed second in 19:02.3, Addison Pereira was seventh in 20:12.0 and Jane Layton took eighth in 20:14.2 for second-place Moorpark (47). Lilliana Sanders took fifth in 20:08.4, Helena Rieckewald-Schmidt was 12th in 20:41.8 and Gianna Vazquez finished 13th in 20:42.7 for third-place Camarillo (69). Leanne Olivas placed third in 19:37.2 and Camilia Carrion took ninth in 20:19.4 for fourth-place Royal (77). Angelica Espinoza was fourth in 19:54.1 and Hanna Curtis was 18th in 21.17.7 for fifth-place Simi Valley (91).

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

  • Oak Park placed first as a team with 51 points and Hunter Lee of Moorpark was the individual winner with a time of 15:32.0 at the first Coastal Canyon League meet of the season. Grant Jones finished sixth in 15:47.4, Ethan Marley was ninth in 16:10.6, Kean Castaneda placed 11th in 16:17.7, Mark Hodges was 12th in 16:19.6, and Shreyam Bhattaharya was 13th in 16:22.4 to lead the Eagles. David Raigoza finished eighth in 16:00.1 and Thomas White was 10th in 16:12.1 for the second-place Musketeers (56). Michael Lennox took second overall in 15:33.9 and Diego Montag was fifth in 15:44.7 for third-place Camarillo (58). Asher Lee finished third in 15:34.3 and Samuel Bado took fourth in 15:37.2 for fourth-place Royal (84). Elijah Rojas placed seventh in 16:02.7 for fifth-place Simi Valley (106).

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

  • Kate Duffey finished with 47 assists, 16 digs and nine kills, Gigi Scaglia had 17 kills and 15 digs, Daphne Raymond and Sophia Sletten each had 15 kills, and Chloe Simpson added 18 digs to lead Ventura (14-2, 9-0) to a 22-25, 25-22, 25-16, 19-25, 21-19 victory over Dos Pueblos in a Channel League match.

  • Valeria Ibarra had 32 assists and nine digs, Laney Ramirez had eight kills, and Gabriella De La O and Leilah McDougald each finished with seven kills to lead Oxnard (8-9, 6-3) to a 25-21, 14-25, 14-25, 25-21, 15-11 victory over Santa Barbara in a Channel League match.

  • Shai Daniels had nine kills, Viola Barrios had six kills, Ashley Sulkowski had four kills, and Maddie Shay and Sydney Davis each finished with nine assists to lead Buena to a 25-7, 25-15, 25-10 sweep of Pacifica in a Channel League match.

  • London Halvorsen had 12 kills, Gwen Hunnicutt had seven kills and Mia Paculan finished with 13 digs to lead Thousand Oaks (9-2, 4-1) to a 25-7, 25-21, 25-14 sweep of Newbury Park in a Marmonte League match.

  • Alexis O’Keefe and Olivia Lopez each finished with nine kills, Joia McJimpson had eight kills, and Kiyomi Kohno compiled 30 assists to lead Agoura to a 25-18, 25-19, 25-22 sweep of Calabasas in a Marmonte League match.

  • Emily Ford finished with 15 kills, eight digs and six aces and Kyriah Trefren had 20 digs and two aces to lead Royal (11-4, 3-0) to a 25-13, 25-25, 25-22 sweep of Moorpark in a Coastal Canyon League match.

  • Chloe Cook had 11 kills, 12 digs and three aces, Olivia Campisi finished with eight kills, 14 digs and six aces, Akina Nash had five kills, 15 assists and three aces, Claire Fitzgerald had seven kills, 12 assists and a block, and Reagan Woods added six kills to lead Simi Valley to a 25-21, 17-25, 25-14, 25-21 win over Oak Park in a Coastal Canyon League match. Natascha Aden had 12 kills, Mika Merilles and Andrea Mise each had six kills, Katie Russell had five kills, Taylor Mansmann contributed 10 digs and four aces, and Savannah Mitchell finished with 21 assists, 10 digs and two aces for the Eagles.

  • Sarah Shaw finished with 20 kills, five aces, two blocks and two digs, Maddie Dodd had 13 kills and seven dogs, Makenna Hawkins compiled seven kills, six digs and two aces, Emily Morge had four digs and two aces, Reagan Maguire had five aces, three blocks, three digs and two kills, and Logan Burns had six digs and three kills to lead La Reina (16-4, 5-0) to a 25-11, 25-23, 15-25, 25-18 win over Cate in a Tri-Valley League match.

  • Kaitlin Logan finished with 13 digs, 11 kills and an ace, Soraya Forbes had nine kills and three blocks, Dea Larch had seven kills and a block, and Hallie Barlow had 14 digs, four assists and an ace to lead St. Bonaventure (11-4, 3-1) to a 25-20, 25-21, 25-14 sweep of Laguna Blanca in a Tri-Valley League match.

  • Channing McClure had seven kills and five blocks, Morgan Houston finished with 18 assists and four digs, and Ashlyn Mullin had seven kills and four aces for Foothill Tech in its 25-27, 25-23, 25-17, 25-12 loss to Bishop Diego in a Tri-Valley League match.

  • Kinsley Gullatt had seven kills and seven aces and Faith Currier and Kirra Crane each finished with seven kills to lead Villanova Prep (9-6, 4-0) to a 25-15, 25-10, 25-11 sweep of Dunn in a Frontier League match.

GIRLS FLAG FOOTBALL

  • Camarillo defeated Oak Park 18-7 to improve to 3-1 in league play.

  • Royal defeated Newbury Park 6-0.

  • Ventura defeated Santa Barbara 21-12 in a road game.

GIRLS GOLF

  • Joanna Hong was the medalist with a 1-under 34 and Lily Huynh shot a 37 to lead unbeaten Oak Park (10-0, 6-0) to a 194-231 victory over Camarillo in a Coastal Canyon League match at Spanish Hills Country Club. Mei Li Root and Madison Mitsuuchi each shot a 41 for the Scorpions (4-7, 2-4).

  • Lillian Spratt earned medalist honors with a 1-under 34 and Addison Kloch and Jayden Peters each shot a 36 to lead Agoura (4-2) to a 204-274 victory over Royal in a Coastal Canyon League match at Simi Hills Golf Course. Jordan Downey shot a 46 and Makayla Tracy had a 53 for the Highlanders.

  • Meg Hampton earned medalist honors with a 45, Sierra Engel shot a 48, Avery Wells had a 49, Katya Ayala shot a 52, and Annabelle Shilley had a 53 to lead Buena (6-1, 4-0) to a 247-283 win over Rio Mesa in a Channel League match at Olivas Links Golf Course.

  • Ella Meyers was the medalist with a 43, Lorne Rieman had a 47, Mia Sinclair shot a 49, Oakley Moran had a 51, and Alina Garcia finished with a 54 for Ventura (5-2, 2-2) in its 233-244 loss to San Marcos in a Channel League match at Olivas Links Golf Course.

  • Piper Singleton earned medalist honors with a 39, Audrey Yoong followed with a 40, Bella Baum had a 53, Maddie Wicks had a 55, and Zoe Bellanca had a 61 to lead unbeaten Foothill Tech (3-0, 2-0) to a 249-303 win over Bishop Diego in a Tri-Valley League match at Olivas Links Golf Course.

GIRLS TENNIS

  • Katherine Blackwood swept her singles sets, 6-1, 6-1, 6-2, Ellie Lin won two singles sets, Brody Hamilton and Sofia Serrao won their doubles sets, 6-4, 6-4, 6-0, and Hannah Huang and Kaitlin Mayers won their doubles sets, 6-1, 6-1, 6-0, to lead Oaks Christian (4-2, 1-1) to a 13-5 win over Thousand Oaks in a Marmonte League match.

  • Pia Sullivan won two singles sets and Sophia Audish and Emerson Calle won two doubles sets for La Reina in its 12-6 loss to Bishop Diego in a Frontier League match.

  • Camarillo defeated Moorpark 16-2 in a Coastal Canyon League match.

  • Oak Park defeated Royal 18-0 to improve to 9-1 overall and 1-0 in the Coastal Canyon League.

BOYS WATER POLO

  • Ventura defeated Camarillo 14-11 in a nonleague game.
