Thursday, Sept. 13

Morrisville 25, Lower Moreland 15

Thursday’s win was a milestone for the Bulldogs. Not only was it Morrisville’s (1-3) first victory of the season, it was the first for new head coach Mitch Cohen. Running back Raymond Holman rushed for 231 yards and scored two touchdowns. For the season, Holman has 535 yards on just 67 carries. Ky'iere Rankins also had a big game on the ground, scoring two touchdowns and rushing for 57 yards. I'Zire Caraway added 26 yards rushing and Zykhiem Hairston contributed 25 yards.

Germantown Academy 31, Archbishop Wood 20

The Patriots (3-0) picked up their third straight win, though this week’s opponent certainly made them work for it. Sophomore quarterback Xavier Stearn threw two touchdowns and passed for 234 yards, with both TDs going to George Arendt (4 receptions for 100 yards). AJ Towsen had six catches for 78 yards.

After the Patriots went up 14-0, the Vikings (1-3) came right back to tie it as Yasin Lowry scored two consecutive TDs. Joe Scarpello made an impressive catch in the corner of the end zone for the Vikings, but they couldn't hold off the Patriots.

Souderton wide receiver Danny Dyches completes a reception in a football game against Central Bucks East at Souderton Area High School in Franconia on Friday, September 8, 2023. Big Red defeated the Patriots 23-21.

The Big Red (4-0) won their fourth straight in impressive fashion Thursday afternoon. Danny Dyches scored two rushing touchdowns (14, 10 yards) in the first half, and finished a stellar afternoon by nabbing an interception and returning it 25 yards to the house. With starting QB Ben Walsh sidelined due to injury, sophomore Cody Kawaguchi stepped in and threw a 15-yard touchdown pass. CR North fell to 0-4, though not for lack of effort.

Central Bucks West 20, Pennsbury 3

While both teams are known for piling on the points, this matchup between CB West (4-0) and Pennsbury (2-2) was more of a defensive battle. Cooper Taylor gave the Bucks an early lead they wouldn’t lose, scoring from five yards out in the first quarter. Ryan Clemens kicked a 32-yard field goal for the Bucks, and Falcons’ kicker Angelo Pereira booted a 37-yard FG to put Pennsbury on the board. After halftime, Clemens added a 27-yard field goal, and Taylor scored his second rushing TD of the night. Check out photos from the game!

North Penn 22, Neshaminy 14

There was a lot of action in this one, and two huge plays set the Knights (2-2) up for success as they won their second straight. Marc Cobb hauled in a 67-yard receiving touchdown from Matt Bucksar to give the Knights an early lead. But Carter Clee scored on fourth down to tie it for Neshaminy. Later, Rashad McNeill recovered a fumble to set up a Ryan Bocklet 42-yard field goal for the Knights. Neshaminy’s Demacio Cooper pulled down an interception, but Jackson Sherman followed with an interception for NP which he returned 81 yards for a TD, giving the Knights a 16-7 lead at the half. In the second half, McNeill scored his second TD of the night, this one on a 35-yard pass from Aidan Eves. Eves, who typically plays tight end, took over at QB after injuries to Bucksar as well as his backup. Clee scored his second TD for Neshaminy (1-3) as time expired.

La Salle 38, Haverford School 16

It was the Gavin Sidwar Show on Thursday night, as the sophomore quarterback led the Explorers (2-2) to their second win. Sidwar (212 passing yards) threw for three touchdowns in the first half, with two going to junior receiver Julian McFadden (16, 29 yards). JP Oates caught the third TD pass of 16 yards, and Stevie Davis added an 18-yard rushing TD to give the Explorers a 28-0 halftime lead. The Fords made a mini-comeback, scoring 16 consecutive points, but a 27-yard field goal from Davis and a late 9-yard run by Desmond Ortiz put the game out of reach. Davis rushed for 140 yards on 24 carries, in addition to kicking a field goal and all five extra points, and McFadden had six catches for 110 yards. The win was the first for the Explorers, who play a very challenging schedule, since their season-opening victory against North Penn. Check out photos from the game!

Central Bucks South 13, Central Bucks East 6

Entering Thursday’s game, the Titans’ defense had allowed 17 points through three games, while the Patriots had given up 23. So it was no surprise that this rivalry game was decided by defense. The two squads traded rushing TDs in the first half, with Jim Wade scoring first for the Titans (4-0), and Dean Blackwell tied it for the Patriots (2-2). That was all the scoring until midway through the fourth quarter when Anthony Leonardi gave the Titans a lead they would hold until the end with a 12-yard rushing TD. See photos from the game!

Pennridge 28, Abington 0

The Rams followed their first win of the season with their second straight victory and second straight shutout. Sophomore quarterback Noah Keating threw three touchdown passes, spreading the ball around to three different receivers. Joe Gregoire was the recipient of the first, a 12-yard pass, and he later grabbed an interception in the end zone. Jacob Arteaga added a rushing touchdown for the Rams (2-2). Christian Broome had two interceptions for Abington (1-2).

William Tennent 24, Hatboro-Horsham 6

The Panthers earned their second straight win of the season thanks to a strong defensive effort from Jayden Lee and a balanced offensive attack. Lee had 17 tackles and two sacks as the Panthers held the Hatters to their lowest point total of the season. Gary Miluzzo scored a pair of rushing touchdowns and Lorenzo Hurley also ran for a TD. Kyle Flack contributed a 34-yard field goal and Stephen Cosenza had a two-point conversion run for Tennent (2-2), which rallied to outlast Upper Merion 21-20 in Week 3 under new coach Colin Leach.

Council Rock South 48, Harry S. Truman 19

The Golden Hawks rebounded from last week’s close loss to Pennsbury with a dominant win. Quarterback Chase Ennis and running back Chase Myers have been putting together very impressive seasons, and that continued on Thursday. Ennis threw two touchdown passes, one to Myers and one to Jake Maurer, and also ran for a score. Myers, in addition to his receiving score, ran for two TDs. Ryan Small added a rushing touchdown and Wes Waninger returned a kickoff for a TD.

Quakertown 21, Plymouth-Whitemarsh 0

Vince Micucci continued to build on his excellent season in Thursday’s win.  Micucci accounted for all three Panthers' TDs, rushing for two and throwing for one, with Aiden Burgy being the recipient. On defense, Anthony Ferrugio and Adam Streahle helped secure the shutout against PW, which was 3-0 entering the game. Ayden Formica blocked a punt, which led to Micucci’s second TD on the ensuing drive.

Upper Dublin 31, Bensalem 7

The Owls scored their first touchdown of the season and tied defending District 1-5A champion Upper Dublin 7-7 in the second quarter. Though the Owls (0-4) didn’t end up with the win, they will look to build on this momentum when they face CR North (0-4) next week.

Nativity BVM 39, George School 8

Radnor 26, Upper Moreland 20

Conwell-Egan 7, Archbishop Ryan 6

Monty Zoryea bolted 51 yards into the end zone to give the Eagles (3-1) the touchdown and would turn out to be the game-winner in this defensive battle between PCL rivals. The game came down to the final seconds when Damien Morgan scored for Ryan. The Raiders attempted a two-point conversion, but Gavin Pond stopped Morgan on his rushing attempt to secure the win for Conwell-Egan.
