Three Rivers names Orange Grove's Brent Kornegay head football coach/athletic director

Brent Kornegay will be on a different Coastal Bend sideline this fall.

Kornegay will take over as head football coach and athletic director at Three Rivers ISD after the school board approved his hiring at a meeting earlier this week.

The veteran Coastal Bend coach went 14-10 over the last two seasons at Orange Grove, his second stint with the school, including two playoff appearances and two wins in the postseason.

Details of his departure and when he will begin at Three Rivers are still to be finalized.

Kornegay is the third-winningest active coach in the Corpus Christi area with a career mark of 138-89 dating back to 2003 when he began his head coaching career with his first stint at Orange Grove. He also has spent time at Yoakum and George West.

His teams have advanced to the playoffs 16 times including four district titles.

Kornegay replaces Ramon Soliz, who led the Bulldogs to playoff appearances in all four seasons and a 26-18 overall record.

With his departure, Orange Grove is now looking to fill its AD/head football coach position as it will return to Class 3A in the fall following two seasons in Class 4A.
