Three takeaways from Class 5A second-ranked Del City’s 34-13 state semifinal win over No. 3 Claremore on Friday afternoon:

Top moment: Late in the first quarter, Del City chose to go for it on fourth down, and the decision paid off. Senior running back Braelon Adamah took a direct snap and not only gained the four yards he needed, but also evaded defenders with an agile leap and bolted 35 yards into the end zone. Del City’s lead ballooned to 21-0 with 2:02 left in the first quarter.

Read option: The Del City defense remained relentless in the backfield, holding an opponent below 14 points for the eighth time this season. The Eagles tallied four sacks for a total loss of 24 yards.

Wagoner 42, Ada 7

Three takeaways from Class 4A No. 1 Wagoner’s 42-7 rout of No. 4 Ada in a prep football playoff semifinal game.

Read option: The victory delivered top-ranked Wagoner (13-0) to its 10th state championship game in school history and ninth under Coach Dale Condict, who has led the Bulldogs since 2005. A win on Thursday at the University of Central Oklahoma against Blanchard (12-1) will give Condict his third state title in four years, and seventh overall. The last six times Wagoner has reached the title game – 2022, 2020, 2016, 2015, 2014 and 2011 – it has claimed the crown.

Key moment: After punting on both of its first two offensive possessions, Wagoner broke through the third time it had the ball with a 16-play, 80-yard drive that swallowed up nearly seven minutes of clock. A seven-yard quarterback keeper for a touchdown by junior Kale Charboneau capped the march. On the first play of Ada’s ensuing drive, Wagoner linebacker Bryce Steel recovered a fumble at the Cougars’ 21-yard line. Four plays later, a seven-yard touchdown run by tailback Trenton Edwards pushed the Bulldogs’ lead to 14-0 with 5:40 until halftime.

Player of the game: Charboneau. After losing a total of 15 yards through his first three carries, the dual-threat junior quarterback found his rhythm with 78 yards on his next 14 first-half totes to go with 160 yards through the air. Charboneau finished the game with 112 rushing yards, 177 through the air and three total touchdowns without a turnover.

Stillwater’s Holden Thompson (5) runs the ball during an Oklahoma high school semifinal football game between Stillwater and Choctaw in Edmond, Okla., on Friday, Nov. 24, 2023.

Three key takeaways from first-ranked Stillwater’s 33-29 win over fourth-ranked Choctaw in Friday's Class 6A-II football playoffs semifinal round.

Player of the game: Holden Thompson. The senior rushed 34 times for 134 yards and a touchdown to help the Pioneers advance to their second consecutive Class 6A-II state title game. Key moment: After failing to convert and tying the game at 29 on a two-point conversion in the previous possession, Stillwater’s Talon Kendrick intercepted a pass from Choctaw’s Cash Williams on third down to give the Pioneers possession in Yellowjackets territory. The turnover proved pivotal, as a touchdown from Stillwater running back Tan Booth gave them the eventual game-winning score with three minutes remaining.

Read option: Despite the loss, Choctaw’s running back duo of Juju Smith and L.T. Simmons dominated the Yellowjackets' offense. Smith ran the ball 15 times for 62 yards and a touchdown, threw a touchdown pass on a trick play, and caught three passes for 62 yards. Simmons also had a tremendous showing, rushing 15 times for 109 yards and a touchdown of his own.
