Suffering a terrible start to the season, the Buffalo Bills have fallen to 0-2. In a year where the team was expected to make the playoffs for the first time since 1999, this is extremely disappointing for all of the team’s fans around the country.

Firing their offensive coordinator following last Thursday’s loss against the New York Jets, the Bills have much to do this week against the Arizona Cardinals. If they want to have any hope of making the playoffs, this week is a must win game and here are three keys to the Bills doing just that.

QB Rankings: Cam Newton #1 after two weeks

Mailbag: Rookie QBs, fines and 0-2 playoff teams

1. Getting the passing attack going

Going up against an extremely talented secondary, the Buffalo Bills have to avoid becoming one-dimensional during this contest. Getting a short and intermediate passing attack going during this game will be key to the Bills’ chances of winning this game.

Last week against the Jets, it was the deep ball that was working for the Bills. That is unlikely to happen again this week. Getting those short and intermediate routes going early in the game may be the ultimate difference between a win and a loss this week for the Buffalo Bills.

2. Pressure Carson Palmer

A top quarterback in this league, the Bills need to find a way to disrupt Carson Palmer. With so many talented receivers to throw to, coverage will likely not cut it. Getting pressure on Palmer could force him into sacks and a few mistakes that could lead to turnovers.

Without some solid pressure, Carson Palmer will likely pick apart the Buffalo Bills defense with his pin-point passing. The ultimate test will be on the opening drive. Getting pressure early could rattle the entire offense and potentially set the Bills up for a very good day on defense.

3. Better secondary play

For the amount of talent the Buffalo Bills posses in their secondary, their play was absolutely pathetic last week. This must be improved this week and coupled with pressure from the front seven can help disrupt the Cardinals’ passing attack.

If the Bills fail to improve in their secondary, it won’t matter how much pressure the Bills get on Palmer, he won’t have to wait long to find an open man downfield. This must not only be improved for this week but for the rest of the season if the Bills are to make a run at a playoff spot this season.
