Three KC Current players selected in April international window

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Some Kansas City Current players will have some national team duties during the NWSL’s international break.

Midfielder Desiree Scott (Canada) and defenders Lauren (Brazil) and Stine Ballisager Pedersen (Denmark) have all been selected to play for their respective nations.

Scott hasn’t appeared for the Current so far this season as she returns from a knee injury but she has been called to play for the Canadian women’s national team in the SheBelieves Cup on April 6-9.

The 36-year-old is one of the most senior veterans of Canada’s roster with 186 caps since 2010.

Only three other players have more appearances for Canada than Scott. She also has 144 national starts has been a part of three World Cups and helped Canada to bronze medals in 2012 and 2016, plus the gold medal in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Scott and Canada will be facing Lauren and her Brazilian national team on Saturday, April 6 with Canada playing Brazil at 2:30 p.m. CT at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.

The winner will play the the winner of United States-Japan on Tuesday, April 9.

Lauren also has yet to hit the pitch for the Current this season but appeared in two matches last season for 91 total minutes. The 21-year-old has 10 caps for her country notching five starts since 2021.

Ballisager will join Denmark at the UEFA Women’s EURO Qualifiers group stage with hopes of qualifying for the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 tournament. The Danes play Czechoslovakia on Friday, April 5, and will host Belgium at Viborg Stadium in Viborg, Denmark on Tuesday, April 9.

Ballisager has more than 40 caps for her home country.

The Current host Angel City FC at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday before the break and come back from the break on April 14 to face NJ/NY Gotham FC.
