Threat of wet weather alters Gastonia, Shelby high school football second round schedule

A few NCHSAA high school football playoff games featuring teams from Cleveland, Gaston and Lincoln counties are moving up a day, all in an effort to avoid the threat of wet weather.

As of Tuesday, Nov. 7 at 2 p.m., two games have been moved to Thursday night:

  • 2A West: (23) Lincolnton at (7) Shelby

  • 1A West: (16) Mountain Island Charter at (1) Robbinsville

A bulk of second round action in Cleveland, Gaston and Lincoln counties remains as scheduled for Friday.

In the 3A West bracket, top-seeded Crest welcomes No. 16 Statesville, while 10-seed Kings Mountain travels to Asheville for a matchup with No. 7 A.C. Reynolds. Rivals North Lincoln and East Lincoln also remain in contention, the 15th-seeded Knights traveling to No. 2 Hickory while 19-seed East Lincoln takes on No. 3 West Henderson.

Seeded 12th in the 2A West bracket, West Lincoln visits No. 5 Monroe in the second round, with 13-seed Burns also on the road at No. 4 Bunker Hill.

In addition, No. 8 Bessemer City hosts ninth-ranked Swain County in a 1A West second round game.
