They're no spring chickens, but these Team USA elders can hang

Kristin Armstrong (Cycling, 43)

Rio marks Armstrong's fourth Olympic appearance, as she attempts to improve on her two career gold medals. She'll also celebrate her 44th birthday during the Games. (AP)

Phillip Dutton (Equestrian, 53)

Dutton has competed in every Summer Olympics since 1996, winning two gold medals. And as the oldest member of Team USA, he'll bring much-needed experience to Rio. (Getty)

Jake Gibb (Beach volleyball, 40)

Gibb has represented the United States in each of the last three Olympics, but is still searching for his first medal. Perhaps the third time will be the charm for Gibb. (AP)

Bora Gulari (Sailing, 41)

The only newcomer on the list, Gulari (L) is set to make his first Olympic debut in Rio. Luckily for his sake, Team USA has plenty of experience to lean on. (Getty)

Mebrahtom Keflezighi (Track and Field, 41)

A regular on Team USA, Keflezighi's fourth Olympic appearance provides him an opportunity to add to his one career silver. (AP)

Bernard Lagat (Track and field, 42)

Lagat (R) has been a staple of Team USA track and field over the past two decades, competing in each of the last five Olympics. He won a silver and a bronze medal in his career, but is still searching for the elusive gold. (AP)

Beezie Madden (Equestrian, 52)

Madden is a four-time Olympian and three-time medal winner, including one gold each from the 2004 and 2008 games. After failing to reach the podium in 2012, Madden has a chance to redeem herself in Rio. (Getty)

Emil Milev (Shooting, 48)

Milev (center) has the most Olympic experience among anybody on this list, as Rio marks his sixth appearance at the Games. He represented his native country of Bulgaria in 1992, 1996 (where he won a silver medal), 2000 and 2004, and began competing for Team USA in 2012. (AP)

Steffen Peters (Equestrian, 52)

Peters is set to make his third-consecutive appearance at the Olympics, fourth overall, and will attempt to reach the podium for the first time since 1996. (AP)

Keith Sanderson (Shooting, 41)

Sanderson made his Olympic debut for Team USA at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, but is still searching for his first medal. Maybe Rio will be good to him. (Getty)

Enkelejda Shehaj (Shooting, 47)

After a twenty-year absence from Olympic competition, Shehaj (R) is making a return to the Games in Rio. She competed for Albania in 1992 and 1996, but will represent Team USA in 2016, as she pursues her first medal. (Facebook)

Olympians are generally considered to be younger in age, maxing out the prime of their athletic careers. But that’s not always the case. Here’s a look at the older members of Team USA who will bring their talents and experience to get the job done in Rio. From equestrian to beach volleyball, these athletes still have what it takes to win a medal.
