The UVA campus went crazy after Virginia made the Final Four for the first time in 35 years

Crazy celebrations are part of March Madness. “Madness” is in the name, after all. And University of Virginia fans finally had a reason to celebrate on Saturday night. A year after an embarrassing, history-making first-round loss to a 16-seed, Virginia beat a talented Purdue team to advance to its first Final Four since 1984.

Students and fans on the UVA campus in Charlottesville were overjoyed. Bars and restaurants (and any place with a TV) were crammed full of people wanting to watch, so full that the doors couldn’t close and you could hear the cheering from the street.

After Virginia survived overtime with Purdue, people spilled out into the streets to cheer and dance.

Local Charlottesville reporter Darnell Myrick did a news report from the Corner, an area of bars and shops across the street from UVA, and it was packed with people. He wisely wrapped up and threw back to the studio before anyone started taking their clothes off or loudly swearing.

You can see from those videos and photos that UVA is super excited to support its team. But there is one photo that sums up just how excited everyone is. A bride, clad in her dress, veil, and white ballet flats, crowd surfed in the middle of the street, over the heads of celebrating fans.

Was she that ecstatic when she said “I do” to her now-spouse? Unfortunately we have no way of knowing, but let’s hope the answer is yes. Ava Wallace of the Washington Post reported that after the bride crowd surfed, she threw her bouquet to the crowd.

Even more amazing? Wallace also reported that as of midnight, there had been no arrests made related to the celebration.
