Texas WR Jordan Whittington practiced on Monday

Jordan Whittington is doing well. The Texas wide receiver practiced in a non-contact jersey on Monday. The welcomed news means it’s possible the Longhorns’ machine of a receiving corps could be at full strength when the season starts.

Let’s be clear: Texas is not going to fall apart if Whittington is unable to play. It won’t fall apart if any of the top five receivers sustain an injury with the remainder of the group healthy. And if you aren’t so sure, two of Texas signal caller Quinn Ewers’ three touchdowns in Saturday’s scrimmage went to backup slot receiver Johntay Cook.

Texas’ ability to put a strain on defenses is no longer reliant on one or two players coming through in the clutch. This receiver group goes seven to eight deep in contributing playmakers with Johntay Cook, DeAndre Moore and Casey Cain rounding out the group. Ryan Niblett is said to have emerged as another potential contributor.

The Longhorns will hope to have their full assortment of weapons available in their season opener in just under three weeks.
