Texas Tech, Texas A&M announce basketball home-and-home series starting in 2024

For the first time in more than a decade, the Texas Tech basketball team will be willingly hosting a power-conference opponent.

Texas Tech and Texas A&M announced a two-year, home-and-home series that will being next season. The Aggies will visit United Supermarkets Arena on Friday, Nov. 29, 2024. The Red Raiders will return the favor by playing a game at Reed Arena in 2025. That game date has yet to be determined.

The Red Raiders and Aggies haven't played a regular season game since 2012 but squared off in a charity exhibition in Denton in late October.

"We are thrilled about the opportunity to compete against the Aggies and know this will benefit our team and schedule," Tech coach Grant McCasland said in the news release. "I know the environment at United Supermarkets Arena will be elite. Our fans will love to be a part of this game next year."

It just so happens: Will Grant McCasland bring Texas Tech basketball fans bigger non-conference home games?

The announcement of the series also sees McCasland putting his money, and his program, where his mouth is.

Earlier this season, McCasland said, "We are going to really push to try to get great home games. I think we need that. I'd love that to happen."

Outside of the annual Big 12-SEC Challenge, which no longer exists starting this season, the Red Raiders last hosted a power-five conference team in non-conference play on Dec. 18, 2013 when the LSU Tigers came to Lubbock. Since then, the conference challenge saw five SEC teams come to Lubbock between 2014 and 2022.

Should the Aggies wind up being nationally ranked at the time of the game, it would be the just the third time since Dec. 2012 a ranked foe visited Tech in non-conference play.
