Texas Tech baseball: Previewing game vs. No. 7 Oregon State

The Texas Tech baseball team on Wednesday wraps up a week in Arlington with its second game against a top-10 opponent.

No. 22 Tech takes on No. 7 Oregon State at noon at Globe Life Field. Tech was 2-1 going into a game Tuesday against Texas-Arlington. Oregon State went 4-0 in the season-opening College Baseball Classic from Friday through Monday in Surprise, Arizona.

The Red Raiders opened the season Friday with a 6-2 loss to No. 8 Tennessee. That game and Red Raiders' triumphs over Nebraska and Oregon, were part of the Shriners Children's College Showdown.

Oregon State returns six position players who made at least 39 starts on a team that went 41-20 last season. LSU ended the Beavers' season in the championship game of the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional.

Beavers second baseman Travis Bazzana was named Perfect Game USA co-national player of the week after he batted .563 last weekend with three home runs and seven runs batted in. Last year, Bazzana hit .374 with 11 homers and 55 RBI.

Also back for the Beavers are left fielder Gavin Turley (.309-14-46), center fielder Micah McDowell (.342-7-47) and right fielder Brady Kasper (.304.-12-41), first baseman Mason Guerra (.326-12-56) and catcher Tanner Smith (.236-3-27).

First baseman Trent Caraway, designated hitter Tyce Peterson and Turley homered twice apiece in Oregon State's opening four games.

Tech's hottest bats on opening weekend were designated hitter Owen Washburn, who had a team-high six hits in 12 at-bats, right fielder Austin Green (.455-1-5) and left fielder Damian Bravo (.500-0-4).

Oregon State remains in Arlington for Globe Life Field games Friday against No. 4 Arkansas, Saturday against Michigan and Sunday against Oklahoma State.
