Texas A&M-Kingsville football picked to finish third in Lone Star Conference

The Texas A&M-Kingsville football team is predicted to finish third in the Lone Star Conference and senior defensive back Amos Coleman was named the league's preseason defensive player of the year during the conference's media day on Thursday at McKinney ISD Stadium's Community Event Center in McKinney.

The third-place ranking in the LSC preseason poll is the highest for the Javelinas under head coach Michael Salinas, who is entering his fourth season with the program.

The Javelinas, who finished 7-5 last season for the program's best finish since 2012, will return 15 starters from 2022, including Coleman, who recorded five interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns while adding 39 total tackles.

Running back Christian Anderson, who ran for 812 yards and 10 touchdowns last season, was tabbed as an offensive player to watch.

Angelo State was predicted to win its second consecutive LSC championship after totaling 241 points and Central Washington was picked to finish second.

The Javelinas open the 2023 season on the road against Colorado Mesa on Sept. 9.
