Texas A&M is a finalist for Middle Tennessee transfer guard Teafale Lenard

The 2023 college basketball transfer portal is chock-full of talented and productive players looking for a new home, and a new start to their young playing career.

For Texas A&M, next season’s roster will remain unchanged for the most part, as Wichita State transfer guard Dexter Dennis’ one incredible year with the Aggies came to an end, his departure is the only significant loss for a team that will potentially bring back four starters led by All-SEC guard Wade Taylor IV and most of their bench.

Replacing Dennis’ defensive prowess and experience is a tough job in its own right, but A&M’s biggest issue still remains on the perimeter, ranked 259th in 3-point percentage last season, and lacking any incoming help outside of 2023 four-star combo guard Bryce Lindsay, but that’s about it. However, head coach Buzz Williams’s portal plan became a bit clearer after news dropped that former Middle Tennesee guard Teafale Lenard has narrowed his transfer destination list to three schools including Memphis, NBL (National Basketball League), and Texas A&M.

Listed at 6-7, and 175lbs, Lenard is built like a future lottery pick in the NBA Draft while averaging 8.3 points per game and 4.0 rebounds last season and will have two years remaining if he chooses to continue on the collegiate route. Lenard may not be the perimeter shooter Williams is looking for (23% from three in 2022), but his length and defensive ability in the frontcourt would provide a solid replacement for Dennis and obvious depth at the guard postion.
