As some Austin-area schools begin district play this week, here are our top 10 girls soccer teams entering the most important part of the season:

1. Round Rock

The three-time defending district champions are deep and talented, well-coached by Chad Aldrich and have a dominant midfield led by standout AJ Mayock.

2. Westwood

Head coach Malcolm Framjee led the Warriors to the state tournament last season and has coached the Warriors to playoffs for 10 straight seasons. Westwood graduated all-Central Texas player of the year Atlee Olofson but returns a strong attack and an excellent defense.

3. Lake Travis

The Cavaliers are well-coached by William Maloney and have possibly the most talent in the area. Lake Travis stresses midfield ball control and showed great poise last season.

4. Rouse

The Raiders are solid and well-coached but graduation losses and a tough schedule may slow their start.

5. Georgetown

Graduation hit the 2023 state Class 5A finalists and legendary head coach Sam McCutchen retired, but new coach Eduardo Vengas has the Eagles poised for a solid season as the younger players gained key playoff experience.

6. Liberty Hill

The Panthers are loaded with talent and appear among the top teams in a very strong district. A difficult early schedule could slow Liberty Hill, but it is poised for a playoff run.

7. Dripping Springs

A traditional power and recent state champion, the Tigers are rebuilding but return an offensive core that should send them on a serious playoff run.

8. Leander

Alexia Dyar has rebuilt the Lions into a regional power while competing in possibly the strongest Class 5A district in the state. Leander is eyeing a return to the regional tournament.

9. Vandegrift

The Vipers have been soccer royalty since the school opened and the 2024 version is extremely talented.

10. Cedar Park

Head coach Winston Pool has the Timberwolves set to be the breakout team in the Austin area. Deep and fundamentally strong, Cedar Park was three goals in different matches from being a state tournament participant, and the Timberwolves look to be strong again this season.

Also considered: Wimberley, St. Michael’s Academy, Giddings, Burnet, Anderson, Westlake, Hendrickson, East View, and Cedar Ridge.
