Tennessee Titans rule Nicholas Petit-Frere out vs. Colts despite suspension being lifted

Despite being eligible to return from suspension as soon as this week, the Tennessee Titans have ruled offensive tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere out for Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Petit-Frere had the length of his suspension for violating the NFL's gambling policy reduced from six games to four games last week, making him eligible to make his season debut Sunday. But the Titans ruled him out for the Colts game on their Friday injury report despite Petit-Frere's full week of practice with the team.

Petit-Frere started 16 games for the Titans at right tackle as a rookie. He was suspended over the summer for placing bets on sports other than the NFL from inside a team facility or while traveling with the team, an infraction that is now classified as a two-game suspension for first-time offenders per recently changed rules.

During the week, Petit-Frere practiced at left tackle and right tackle. Titans coach Mike Vrabel said Friday that this is so he can be prepared for any role that's asked of him as a starter or a backup when he does return.

In Petit-Frere's absence, the Titans have started journeyman Chris Hubbard at right tackle and free agent signee Andre Dillard at left tackle. The Titans' other swing tackle, Dillon Radunz, will likely be available as a backup again by the time Petit-Frere returns given rookie Peter Skoronski's expected return after missing time because of an emergency appendectomy.

The Titans (2-2) visit the Colts (2-2) at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday (noon, CBS).
