Tennessee-Alabama: Quarterback No. 1 responsible in providing victory cigars

The Tennessee-Alabama football series was first played in 1901. The Vols and Crimson Tide played to a 6-6 tie in Birmingham, Alabama.

Tennessee’s first win in the series came in 1904, defeating Alabama 5-0 in Birmingham.

The first game played in Knoxville took place in 1909. Tennessee defeated the Crimson Tide, 10-0.

Tuscaloosa played host in the series for the first time in 1913 with Alabama winning, 6-0.

Over the years, the winning team will smoke victory cigars.

Former Alabama quarterback John Parker Wilson discussed his experience as the Crimson Tide’s starting quarterback in the series.

Tennessee defeated Alabama and Wilson in 2006 at Neyland Stadium. The former Hoover High School quarterback was 13-of-29 for 158 yards in Tennessee’s last victory in the series on Oct. 21, 2006.

On Oct. 20, 2007, Wilson and Alabama defeated Tennessee, 41-17. Wilson completed 32-of-46 passes for 363 yards and three touchdowns.

Ahead of the 2021 Tennessee-Alabama matchup, Wilson discussed who is responsible in providing victory cigars ahead of the traditional contest.
