Teats scores 4 first-half TDs in Seals' rout

Sep. 23—SUNBURY — Tucker Teats and the Selinsgrove Seals figured they couldn't let rival Shikellamy hang around too long in Saturday's Rally in the Valley game on the brand-new turf at Shikellamy Stadium.

"There a tough team, and they always play this game like the Super Bowl," Teats said.

Teats rang up 247 total yards in the first half and four touchdowns, while Brett Rice had a game-high 158 yards rushing to knock off the Braves, 54-14, in Heartland Athletic Conference-Division I action.

Teats scored on a 65-yard punt return to start the scoring, and later had TD runs of 42, 43 and 1 yard as the Seals raced to a 28-6 lead after one quarter.

"I told them after the game that they knew they were heavily favored, and they played like they needed to play," Seals coach Derek Hicks said of his team, which improved to 4-0-1 overall, 2-0-1 HAC-I.

Selinsgrove opened a 14-0 lead after Teats' first touchdown run of the game, but the Braves answered. Sophomore quarterback Brody Rebuck and freshman recevier Thomas Pollock connected on a 75-yard pass down to the 5. Pollock later scored from 2 yards out on fourth-and-goal. The extra point failed, but the Braves were within 14-6 with 4:13 left in the first quarter.

It didn't take long for the Seals to answer. Teats ripped off a 43-yard TD run to cap a two-play, 57-yard drive. Then, on the second play of the next Shikellamy series, Andrew Sassaman recovered a fumble on the Shikellamy 8 after Rebuck was sacked. Mark Pastore found Caleb Hicks for an 8-yard score on the next play for a 28-6 lead with 3:01 left in the opening quarter.

Selinsgrove's next score came thanks to its defense. Carlos Sutter came had a strip sack and fumble recovery on a corner blitz to set up the Seals at the 14. After an incomplete pass, three straight Teats runs — the last from a yard out — pushed the lead to 35-6.

Ethan Miller added a 26-yard TD run with 7:08 left in the first half after the Seals had stopped Rebuck on a fourth-and-2 run at the Shikellamy 42.

Rice added a touchdown run of 69 on the first offensive play of the third quarter, and another from 56 on the first play of the fourth to account for Selinsgrove's second-half scores.

Rebuck and Pollock showed Shikellamy's (1-4, 0-3) future is bright. Rebuck passed for 230 yards, while Pollock finished with five catches for 150 yards.
