Sydney Vis powers Hope women's basketball past Trine, to outright MIAA championship

Tied late in the third quarter, the Hope College women's basketball team put together a strong fourth quarter to hold off the Thunder, 73-58 and clinch the outright MIAA regular-season championship on Saturday.

The win also makes the Flying Dutch (22-1, 14-0 MIAA) the host for the MIAA Tournament, and they will have a first-round bye.

The game was tied 45-45 with 1:26 to go in the third when Hope's Sydney Vis nailed a 3-pointer to give Hope a 48-45 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Vis found an open Jada Garner for a 3 to start the fourth quarter. Keegan Kaiser hit a 3, then Garner had two layups before Vis hit another 3 to put the game out of reach.

"Very proud of this team's growth and determination," Hope coach Brian Morehouse said. "No in the league picked us, and to be honest, not many in Holland would have picked us last summer. But the growth of this team, their togetherness, their will to fight and win has been amazing."
