Sycamores lead MVC Indoor Track Championship field going into today's finale

Feb. 26—Championships could be brewing for the Indiana State University men's and women's track teams.

The Sycamores led the standings in both the men's and women's competition after Sunday portion of the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships at Gately Park in Chicago.

Indiana State picked up 57 points on the men's side and 53 points on the women's side on the opening day. The Sycamores were the only team to score more than 50 points on either side and will enter today's Championship Monday events with double-digit leads on both sides.

ISU and the other MVC teams begin competition Monday 10:30 a.m.

Will Staggs (pole vault), Shomari Rogers-Walton (long jump) and Niesha Anderson (weight throw) all won individual event titles on the opening day, with all three recording marks that rank in the top 40 nationally. Brooklyn Giertz-Pfaff (pole vault), Claire Pittman (long jump), Mitch Conard (long jump), Elias Foor (weight throw) and Grace Quinlan (pentathlon) all earned all-conference honors in their respective events Sunday.
