A super-sized Fantastic Five celebrating MetroWest high school athletes from the weekend

A weekend full of big time performances deserves a super sized Fantastic Five. These athletes excelled in brilliant bursts and across apparatuses.

Their teams earned tight wins and blowout victories. Without further ado, here are the weekend's Fantastic Five (plus some) athletes from MetroWest and Milford:

HAILEY BASSETT/GRACE HIGGINS, Millis girls basketball

The pair each posted a double-double in a 54-35 win over Holliston on Friday. Bassett scored 12 points with 12 rebounds, and Higgins added 10 points with 12 rebounds. Ella Maher led Millis (7-5) with 13 points.

RACHEL CARPENTER, Westborough girls basketball

She hit five 3-pointers and scored 23 points to lead the Rangers to a 60-38 win over Fitchburg on Friday. Annabelle Semeter added 14 points, and Kate Sams had 13 for Westborough (6-4, 6-0 Midland Wachusett B).

PATRICK MADDEN, Hopedale boys basketball

The junior carried the load for the Blue Raiders on Friday with 20 points. He scored 15 of them in the second quarter as Hopedale built a lead. Robbie Manning and Cam Parker scored seven each for Hopedale (7-5, 3-3 Dual Valley).

JAGGER SANDFORD, AMSA boys swimming & diving

He won the distance freestyle events for the Eagles (6-2) in a 117-42 victory over Gardner on Friday.

ELLIE SIMMONS, Medway/Holliston/Milford/Millis gymnastics

She won three events in leading her team to a 140.35-127.15 victory over Norwood on Friday. Simmons scored a 9.3 on the vault, 9.1 on the beam and 9.3 on the floor for MHMM (2-1).

JORDAN SOUSA, Hudson boys ice hockey

He notched a hat trick Saturday, as the Hawks took down Leominster 7-0. Christian Stevens distributed three assists with a goal for Hudson (5-6). Joe Lozoraitis put away two goals for Hudson.

Boys basketball

DOVER-SHERBORN 66, Ashland 47: Seniors Mason Melchionda and Jobo Windle each scored 15 points for the Raiders on Friday. Chris Kiesling added 10 points and eight rebounds for D-S (7-5, 5-4 TVL). Robbie Rudisill led the Clockers (4-6, 1-4) with 19 points.

WESTWOOD 52, Medway 51: Caden Reisman scored 26 points for the Mustangs in a tight loss Friday. Brendan McNamara pulled don 11 rebounds with four steals for Medway (5-6, 5-4 TVL).

ASSABET 47, Main South: Filipe Assuncao hit three 3s and led Assabet with 11 points Friday. Alexander Katsiaounis and Miles Braddix scored seven points each for Assabet (2-7, 2-3 Colonial).

WORCESTER TECH 48, Blackstone Valley Tech 36: Nathan Slaney led the Beavers(4-5, 3-1 Colonial) with 11 points on Friday.

AMSA 66, Parker Charter 33: Braden DeZutter paced the Eagles (3-7, 3-3 Colonial) with 18 points and six assists Friday. Harry McCarthy added 13 points, while Rory Kyle (four points) grabbed 14 rebounds. Niko Chaplain stuffed the stat sheet with seven points, six assists, 10 rebounds and six steals.

FITCHBURG 71, Algonquin 58: Jordan Lopez led three Titans (3-8, 1-3 Mid-Wach A) with 16 points Friday. Dylan Poirier added 12 points, while Patrick Biamou scored 11.

SHEPHERD HILL 35, Marlborough 31: Chris Krueger Paced the Panthes (1-7, 0-5 Mid-Wach B) with 14 points Friday.

NASHOBA 71, Westborough 65: Justin McCaferty scored 17 points in a tight game t the top of the Mid-Wach B standings Friday. Nicholas Bellofatto hit three 3s and scored 15 points, while Alec Desrosiers added 13 points for Westborough (8-2, 5-1).

HUDSON 53, Quabbin 43: Jackson O'Brien scored 22 points, and Owen Murphy chipped in 12 for the Hawks (6-6, 3-4 Mid-Wach C) on Friday.

Girls basketball

NEEDHAM 53, Natick 38: Katie Stopka scored eight points, and True Liner added seven for the Redhawks (2-7, 1-5 Bay State Conference) on Friday.

HOPKINTON 45, Bellingham 33: Meghan Grady scored 21 points for the Hillers (7-,4 5-4 TVL) on Friday.

DOVER-SHERBORN 58, Ashland 43: Elliana Scalabrine led the Raiders with 21 points Friday. Amari Hughes contributed 122 points, and Avery O'Connell scored eight for D-S (9-2, 7-2 TVL), which has won three in a row.

ASSABET 40, Main South 23: Ava Palizzolo outscored the opposition on her own Friday with 25 points. Assabet (2-8, 1-3) has won tis last two games after an 0-8 start.

AMSA 54, Parker Charter 14: Riley Whittier led a balanced Eagles attack with 10 points Friday. A dozen players scored for AMSA 8-3, 4-1 Colonial).

NIPMUC 31, Douglas 23: Paige Anderson and Meg McCobb scored eight points each for the Warriors (4-6, 3-3 DVC).

SUTTON 46, Hopedale 41: Phoebe Carrol scored 13 points, but the Blue Raiders (4-6, 3-2 DVC) couldn't end the Suzies' unbeaten start. Mackenzie Reynolds splashed two 3s and added 10 points for Hopedale.

SHEHERD HILL 46, Marlborough 38: Bella Miele led the Panthers (7-3, 3-3 Mid-Wach B) with 15 points Friday.

QUABBIN 50, Hudson 49 (2OT): Samantha Collette posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds For the Hawks in a thriller Friday. Emma Lenardo scored 11 points with three 2s, while Madeline Haher grabbed 10 rebounds for Hudson (7-5, 3-4 Mid-Wach C).

Boys ice hockey

GRAFTON 2, Marlborough 0: Roman Belli led the way in net with 23 saves for the Panthers (6-4-1) along with defensemen Luc Masse and Chauncey Gurenard on Saturday.

BLACKSTONE VALLEY TECH 5, Oakmont 1: Josph Manzi scored twice for the Beavers on Saturday.  Thomas Liddy, Jack Eastwood and Jacob Selby each had a goal and assist for BVT (10-2).

WESTBOROUGH 6, Groton-Dunstable 3: Max Aires contributed three assists and scored a goal for the Rangers on Saturday. Luke Miller had a goal and two assists, while Connor Cashman, Brendan Martel, Tom Cashman and Michael MacLean each scored once for Westborough (3-7). The Rangers put the game out of reach with four goals in the third.

Assabet 2, Northeast 2: Sam Laightonmade 35 saves Saturday for Assabet. Jack Dunton converted a penalty shot with 5 minutes, 22 seconds remaining to secure a the draw for Assabet (1-8-2). Ollie Eschelbacher scored in the second period from Joe Bent to start the rally from two goals down.

MARBLEHEAD 5, Hopedale 2: Joshua Balzarini and Aiden Collins scored on the road Sunday. Ricky Nashawaty and David Fleming contributed an assist each for the Blue Raiders (3-7-1).

Girls ice hockey

Algonquin 4, Westford Academy 4: Freshman Courtney Shirfrin notched a goal and an assist Saturday for the Titans (5-4-1). Algonquin's Brenna Joyce, Madelyn Glynn and Emily Johns each scored once. Titans goalie Addy Cagan saved 29 shots.

Boys swimming & diving

WESTBOROUGH 82, Grafton 60: Ben Hoann won the 200-yard freestyle and 100 free for the Rangers on Saturday. Cole Crandall took first in the 100 butterfly, and Sam Franco touched firs in the 500 free for Westborough(5-2, 5-0 Midland Wachusett).

Girls swimming & diving

Sophie Robinson was first in the 50 free and 100 breaststroke, while Caitlyn Reitsma won the 100 free and 100 back to keep the Rangers (7-0, 5-0 Mid-Wach) on Saturday.

Girls indoor track & field

MSTCA Division 1 Relay Championships: Franklin tied for the title with Newton North, as both teams scored 36 points. The Panthers won the shot put relay and were second in the high jump and shuttle hurdles. The 4x400 team secured the tie with a fifth-place finish. Sarah Dumas scored on three relays (shot put, high jump and hurdles), while Ella Chandaria (hurdles, shot put) and Caylin Bruno (hurdles, high jump) scored on two relay teams each.

Gymnastics

NEEDHAM 133.15, Framingham 130.25: Flyers senior Maggie Spring took first in the beam with a 9.0 and on the floor with a 9.1 on Friday. She was also second on the bars (8.3) for Framingham (0-2).

MARLBOROUGH 136.5, Groton-Dunstable 136.4: Eliza Rein notched a win on the floor Saturday, scoring 9.3 to lead the Panthers (1-4) to their season high score and first win.

FRAMINGHAM 126.25, Weymouth 123.45: Maggie Spring led the Flyers to a win Sunday by capturing the all-around title at 34.7. She also placed first on the bars (9.0), balance beam (8.7) and floor (8.6).
