What is the Super Bowl logo conspiracy? Everything you need to know about the theory

Two games on Sunday will decide the matchup for Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas. The Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs will face off to decide the AFC's representative in the title game. In the NFC, the San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions will play for the second spot in the Super Bowl.

But some football fans already have an idea of who will be matching up in Las Vegas.

A conspiracy theory about Super Bowl logos predicts that it'll be the Ravens and 49ers playing for the title on Feb. 11. Here's the latest on the theory.

How did the Super Bowl conspiracy start?

It's hard to determine but the Twitter account @NFL_Memes shared a photo in early November showing the connection between Super Bowl logo colors and the teams playing in the championship game.

Super Bowl LVI in Los Angeles had a logo with red, orange, and yellow and lined up with the Cincinnati Bengals (whose primary color is orange) taking on the Los Angeles Rams (whose primary color is yellow).

Super Bowl LVII in Phoenix, Ariz. last year had a logo with green, red, and purple. That game saw the Philadelphia Eagles (green) take on the Chiefs (red).

Super Bowl LVIII's logo is purple and red, the primary colors of the Ravens and 49ers, respectively.

Note that the yellow in the Super Bowl LVI logo has been altered in that photo to be closer to the Rams' yellow.

NFL Super Bowl logo history

The first Super Bowl didn't have a logo but each championship game since then has.

• Super Bowl II in 1968 through Super Bowl XLIV in 2010 had a logo that often included a nod to the host city. Examples include Super Bowl XXXI in New Orleans, which had mardi gras-themes in its logo, and Super Bowl XXXVIII in Houston, which included references to the city's history with NASA.

• Super Bowl XLV through XLIX used silver logos with Roman numerals and the outlines of the host stadium.

• Super Bowl 50 had a special golden logo to commemorate 50 years of the title game.

• Super Bowl LI through LV went solely with Roman numerals and a Lombardi Trophy.

The newest logos since LVI return to giving nods to the host city: palm trees for Super Bowl LVI, desert rock formations for Super Bowl LVII, and a nod to the Las Vegas strip for Super Bowl LVIII.

Is the NFL scripted?

Former Houston Texans running back Arian Foster claimed in an interview in January 2023 that the NFL is scripted. A week later, a Twitter account with the handle @FearKyrie posted a photo, supposedly from Pro Football Reference, claiming the Eagles would win Super Bowl LVII 37-34. The Chiefs ended up winning 38-35.

The rumors continued ahead of the 2023 NFL season and the league made it a joke in advertisements ahead of kickoff.

Recently, a screenshot from a TV broadcast in Vancouver Island, Canada included a graphic stating that the 49ers and Ravens will face off in Super Bowl LVIII.

After a regular season featuring season-ending injuries to quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers, Joe Burrow, and Kirk Cousins among others, many argued against the NFL being scripted.

The conference championship games will decide that. If the Ravens and 49ers make Super Bowl LVIII, they'll have to go through two of the best teams in the NFL and be deserved contenders for the Lombardi Trophy.
