All-Sun Belt guard Andrew Taylor commits to Mississippi State basketball, Chris Jans

STARKVILLE — Marshall guard Andrew Taylor has committed to Mississippi State basketball, he announced via social media on Saturday. Taylor is the second transfer portal addition for MSU and coach Chris Jans this offseason, joining former West Virginia forward Jimmy Bell Jr.

The 6-foot-3, 194-pound Taylor appeared and started in 110 games for the Herd the last four seasons − averaging 14.6 points, five rebounds and 4.1 assists per game in his career.

Taylor got to Marshall in 2018 and sat out his freshman season. As a redshirt freshman in the 2019-2020 season, Taylor averaged 10.1 points in 23 games. His scoring average jumped to 12 the following year and up to 14.2 in the 2021-2022 season.

As a redshirt senior, Taylor's productive peaked. He averaged 20.2 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists last season en route to a first team All-Sun Belt selection. He shot 36.4% on 3-pointers and 80% from the free throw line.

Taylor is a native of Corbin, Kentucky. He was a three-star prospect out of Corbin High School, according to 247Sports.

Taylor fielded interest as a transfer from schools such as Indiana, Ole Miss, Auburn, Michigan and Kentucky, among others, per CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein.
