A basketball record setter and a longtime behind-the-scenes supporter were inducted into The Summit Country Day School’s Athletic Hall of Fame last Friday.

The Athletic Hall of Fame Awards recognize outstanding athletic accomplishments by alumni during their years as Summit students. This year’s Hall of Famers are Dr. Ashley Hite of Los Angeles, a 2009 alumnae, and Hugh McManus of Hyde Park, a 2007 alumni.

Hite was a basketball standout during her years at The Summit. After graduation, she played basketball at Washington University in St. Louis. She received a bachelor’s degree in psychology, neuroscience and philosophy from Washington and her medical degree from the University of Chicago.

She is now a medical resident at the University of California in Los Angeles. At Summit Country Day, Hite set the school's record for all-time leading scorer with 1,261 points.  She also finished her career with 771 rebounds, making her the school’s third all-time. She also placed seventh at state in the 4-x-100-meter dash and played volleyball.

“This honor is not just a recognition of my individual achievements on the court but also recognition of the collected efforts, sacrifices and support from my teammates, coaches, mentors and most importantly my parents and God who were instruments in my journey,” she said.

McManus, a 2007 graduate, played golf and lacrosse during high school but his major contribution has been behind the scenes. From taking admissions to operating the scoreboard or helping in concessions, McManus has assisted the athletic department at nearly every home game on the main campus for the past 17 years – from his junior year in high school through today. McManus graduated from Xavier University in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in communications and is now vice president of sales at Super Optical International.

McManus said Summit’s run of state championship teams impressed him.

"What I've seen since my sophomore year on, is the growth and development of the athletic department to now what has to be well into double-digit state championships,” he said.
