Strong pitching by Nicholai Arbach and Jordon Johnson lifts Lake Norden to 5-3 victory

LAKE NORDEN — Strong pitching by Nicholai Arbach and Jordon Johnson lifted the Lake Norden Lakers to a 5-3 win over the Castlewood Ravens in a battle of league leaders in Eastern Dakota League amateur baseball on Sunday.

The Lakers improved to 9-3 overall and 8-1 in the EDL with their second win over the Ravens, who fell to 7-2 and 7-2.

Arbach went 7 1/3 innings with 12 strikeouts to notch the win and Johnson got the final five outs for the save.

Lake Norden scored two runs in the bottom of the first and three more in the seventh. Jackson Noem produced three hits and Mitchell Noem added a double and single. Jesse VanOverbeke and Kale Stevenson each added singles.

Kellan Benck had a two-run single and Tucker Wookey, Gus Steiger and Jacob Tisher each added singles for the Ravens. Alex Gauer fanned eight batters in seven innings on the mound.

Castlewood Monarchs 17, Milbank Firechiefs 16

CASTLEWOOD — The Monarchs won the Eastern Dakota League slugfest on Sunday, improving to 4-6 overall and in the league.

Jacob Tvedt collected three hits and drove in three runs for the Monarchs. Kyler Tvedt added three hits and Kegan Tvedt, Booker Schooley, Skyler Solsaa and Brady Steffen two each. Lane Tvedt drove in three runs.

Merik Junker led Milbank's offense with a four-hit performance that included three home runs and six runs batted in. Mike Karges also tallied four hits. Brady Krause finished with hits, including a homer, and Mitch Quade and Taylor Boerger two each.

The Firechiefs slipped to 7-4 and 5-3.
