Steve Kerr praises Draymond Green following contract extension
Draymond Green’s long-term future remains with the Golden State Warriors after the veteran forward inked a four-year $100 million extension on June 30. Green had been rumored to potentially leave the franchise this summer to team up with LeBron James.
Fortunately, Golden State was able to keep one of their core players for what could possibly be the remainder of his career. During a recent media availability for Team USA, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr spoke glowingly of Green, noting his happiness in keeping the outspoken forward around.
“We’re really excited to have Draymond back,” Kerr said.”He’s been such a huge part of this decade run and, as he showed this past year, he still has plenty left in the tank…Given that he plays so well with Steph (Curry) and Klay (Thompson), it was really a no-brainer to try to bring him back. And so I’m glad that it all checked out and it all worked out.”

Green may not be one of the league’s most prolific offensive threats, however, his basketball IQ, defensive versatility, and leadership skills have seen him become a vital piece of Golden State’s puzzle. As such, it should come as no surprise that the Warriors made retaining Green a top priority to begin the summer.
After locking down Draymond Green and acquiring Chris Paul, the Warriors will now turn their attention toward filling out the backend of their roster. Finding a veteran big man with legitimate size and a wing defender who can provide cover off the bench will be two areas of interest for Mike Dunleavy.
Thankfully, the NBA season is still months away, so the Warriors have time to locate and acquire players who they feel will fit within their system and would accept a likely diminished role within the rotation.
