Cornerback Senquez Golson hasn’t had the opportunity to showcase what he can do for the Pittsburgh Steelers secondary.

It’s a shame too because there have been some pretty high hopes that he could break out this season after missing all of 2015 with a shoulder injury. They say that lightning doesn’t strike twice, but Goloson has injured his foot and may need surgery.

Now that Golson is probably going to be unavailable for the 2016 season, the Steelers have made some additions to fill the holes in the secondary. The Steelers have signed former Texas Christian University cornerback Kevin White Jr. to add depth.

In signing White, the Steelers released tight end Mandel Dixon and receiver Shakim Phillips who both had injuries, and also added tight end Jake Phillips.

This is White’s second year in the league after a flirtation with the Atlanta Falcons that didn’t see him make the 53-man roster. At TCU in 2014, White had a solid year by becoming an All-Big 12 second-team. That same year saw TCU’s secondary earn the sixth-best pass defense in the nation.

White’s résumé also includes starting 40 games in his career at TCU with six interceptions and three forced fumbles. His size and skills are what should make him intriguing to watch at camp.

White is 5-foot-9 and 185 pounds, which is pretty solid for a cornerback, but he is a little slower than most for the slot cornerback. White’s speed was one of the primary reasons that he went from a projected late-round draft pick to dropping off completely.

However, that was over a year ago. With the taste of the NFL life, White no doubt has been working hard to get back on the field. I remember watching him play in college and thinking how good he was and hopefully he can bring his talent that I saw into camp.

Honestly, I am not going to get too invested in White at this point because there is so much that can happen between now and the final cut to trim the 90-man roster to 53. I hope he can fill the need in the secondary that I was hoping Golson to fill and only time will tell.
