Steelers QB Kenny Pickett will be game-time decision vs. Titans, Mike Tomlin says

Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said Monday that quarterback Kenny Pickett will be a game-time decision for Thursday's game against the Tennessee Titans after suffering a rib injury in Sunday's loss to the Jaguars.

Mitch Trubisky played in relief of Pickett and will start on Thursday should Pickett be out.

"The door is definitively ajar for Kenny," Tomlin said. "Probably a game-time type of decision based on the information that I am holding here today with no structural damage to his ribs."

"We'll see how we'll go through the week (with) his ability to throw, his level of comfort, his ability of effectiveness, et cetera, and let that be our guide in determining his availability."

Pickett has been up and down in 2023, throwing for 1,330 passing yards, five touchdowns and four interceptions with a 61% completion percentage in seven games this season. The Steelers offense has scored 20 or more points in three of seven games and has not scored more than 26 points in a game this year. Pickett is 28th the NFL in passer rating.

Trubisky threw for 138 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions after replacing Pickett in the final minute of the first half against Jacksonville. The No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft made five starts for the Steelers last season, going 2-3 and throwing four touchdowns with five interceptions in 2022.

Tomlin also said that defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick is out for Thursday's game. Fitzpatrick injured his hamstring in Sunday's loss.
