Steelers QB Dwayne Haskins talks quarterback competition

The Pittsburgh Steelers are in a position where they need to sort out the quarterback position not just for this season but the future. Ben Roethlisberger is here for 2021 but nothing is promised after that.

Right now, Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins are the guys who will fight it out in training camp and the preseason to see if they can not only back up Big Ben this season but maybe replace him down the line.

Haskins spoke to the media on Tuesday and said he wants to make it a quarterback competition and said it has felt that way since he got here.

In addition, Haskins also mentioned conversations he’s had with the coaches pertaining to his job but noted those are between him and the coaches. We can draw all sorts of conclusions from that but it’s highly unlikely head coach Mike Tomlin promised Haskins a thing when he joined the team.

Hopefully this competition will bring out the best in Rudolph and Haskins and maybe light a fire under Haskins. He’s always been a guy with tremendous physical tools but even going back to college it was hard to gauge his passion for the game.
