Starting 5: Kentucky basketball's Reed Sheppard, Lyon County's Travis Perry honored, more

Reed Sheppard became the third freshman in Kentucky basketball history to win the USBWA Wayman Tisdale Freshman of the Year award.

Sheppard joined John Wall (2010) and Anthony Davis (2012) as UK winners. This season, Sheppard averaged 12.5 points and 4.5 assists per game.

Sheppard also earned SEC Freshman of the Year and Second-Team All-SEC honors.

Sacred Heart junior standout ZaKiyah Johnson and Bethlehem junior Leah Macy are scheduled to attend the inaugural Stewie 30 Elite Basketball camp, hosted by UConn legend and two-time WNBA champ Breanna Stewart in Brooklyn, New York. Johnson also is set to attend a basketball camp in Atlanta for the newly created Overtime Select league.

Lyon County senior Travis Perry, a Kentucky signee, not only recently won Mr. Basketball but he also was selected as Kentucky's Gatorade Player of the Year for the second year in a row. Perry helped lead the fourth-ranked Lyons to the UK Healthcare Sweet 16.

Lyon County senior Brady Shoulders, who sank the game-clinching free throws in the Lyons' first-round Sweet 16 victory against Ashland Blazer, decommitted from Tennessee-Martin.

  • Louisville women's rowing is scheduled to race at the Sunshine State Invitational beginning Friday in Sarasota, Florida.

  • Louisville women’s tennis is visiting Clemson at 5 p.m. Thursday and Georgia Tech at 2 p.m. Saturday.

  • Louisville men’s tennis is visiting Duke at 5 p.m. Friday and North Carolina at noon March 31.

  • Bellarmine men’s tennis is visiting Austin Peay on Tuesday.

  • Bellarmine women’s tennis is visiting Austin Peay at 11 a.m. Tuesday and hosting Central Arkansas at 10 a.m. Saturday.

  • Bellarmine women’s golf is competing at the Ozarks National Invitational beginning Monday in Branson, Missouri.
