Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama given highest NBA 2K rating for a rookie

After announcing the highest ratings of NBA 2K24 on Wednesday, 2K Sports followed up that announcement by revealing the first rating of No. 1 pick Victor Wembanyama.

The popular video game released a teaser image last month of Wembanyama donning the San Antonio Spurs‘ patented black and white jerseys. His image was the first to be released of the incoming rookie class ahead of the worldwide release of the game on Sept. 8.

Wembanyama was presented with his first rating in the franchise by marketing director Ronnie 2K in a video posted to social media on Thursday. He seemed to approve of his rating, which is the highest ever for a rookie entering the NBA.

Ronnie 2K hinted after the NBA draft that Wembanyama would be the highest-rated rookie when the final calculations were made. He tops the previous high of 81 given to New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson in NBA 2K20.

Wembanyama arrives in the NBA after a decorated season with Metropolitans 92, in which he was named MVP and Defensive Player of the Year. He found some success in the NBA Summer League, recording 27 points and 12 rebounds in his second game with the Spurs.

He figures to immediately be one of the most-used players on NBA 2K24. Many already joke that the 7-footer puts up videogame-like stats on a nightly basis and that will soon come to fruition.
