According to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, the Philadelphia Eagles received calls with trade interest for running back Darren Sproles in the middle of the NFL draft and the San Francisco 49ers, lead by Sproles former head coach Chip Kelly, would be the ideal landing spot. Sproles, 32, has elected to stay away from the team and the organized team activities of training camp as the matter gets resolved. He is staying with his family on the West Coast, according to Rapoport.

Sproles finished last season with 83 carries for 317 yards and three touchdowns. He also made 55 catches for 388 yards and one more touchdown. Sproles is not only a versatile running back, but also a dynamic kick-off and punt returner, something the 49ers haven’t had in years. Sproles had 4 punt return touchdowns in his first two years with the Philadelphia Eagles, tying him with DeSean Jackson for most in franchise history. A tandem of Carlos Hyde and Darren Sproles is not a bad one two punch to have in their arsenal.
