Sports scores, stats for Monday: Strandberg leads B-R girls track to SEC Championship win

TAUNTON— The second to last week of the regular spring high school sports season in the Greater Taunton area kicked off with another action-packed day.

Here's a look at all of the scores, stats and highlights from Monday.

Baseball: Taunton at Plymouth North

SCORE: Taunton 10, Plymouth North 3

LOCATION: Plymouth North High School

RECORD: 12-4 (9-4 Hockomock League)

HIGHLIGHTS: Brady Morin earned the win for the Tigers, tossing two and a third shutout innings giving up two hits while striking out three and recording an RBI at the plate while Jack Cali threw two shutout innings striking out two. At the plate, Dawson Bryce went two-for-three with a pair of RBIs, Ryan MacDougall went two-for-three with a two RBIs and Braden Sullivan went two-for-three with a walk and two runs.

Boys Lacrosse: Taunton vs. Mansfield

SCORE: Mansfield 19, Taunton 0

LOCATION: Taunton High School

RECORD: 3-9 (0-9 Hockomock)

HIGHLIGHTS: Oren Cullins made 15 saves in net while Luke Fraga and Jameson Vallrelli combined to win 40% of face-offs against the Hornets.

Girls Lacrosse: Taunton at Mansfield

HIGHLIGHTS: Maddi Szala led the way for the Tigers with two goals and an assist while Raquel Azevedo scored the other and Mel Jesus made 11 saves in net.

Boys Tennis: Taunton at Durfee

SCORE: Taunton 4, Durfee 1

LOCATION: B.M.C. Durfee High School

RECORD: 6-10 (3-10 Hockomock)

HIGHLIGHTS: Mike Kimmer won first singles 6-2, 6-2 while Martin Frankimet won second singles 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, Heitor Sens won third singles 6-0, 6-1 and the duo of Kenny Dias and Rowen Kimmer won first doubles 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.

Girls Tennis: Taunton vs. Durfee

SCORE: Taunton 4, Durfee 1

RECORD: 8-8 (6-7 Hockomock)

HIGHLIGHTS: Ava Alves won second singles 6-4, 6-1 while Morgan Smith won third singles 6-2, 6-2, the duo of Janelle Garcia and Courtney Martin won first doubles 6-4, 6-0 and the duo of Caroline Pietnik and Sam Parrett won second doubles 6-0, 6-3.

Boys Volleyball: Taunton vs. Barnstable

SCORE: Taunton 3, Barnstable 1

LOCATION: Taunton High School

DATE: May 15

RECORD: 10-6

HIGHLIGHTS: Set scores were 22-25, 25-16, 25-18 and 34-32. Daniel Freitas led the way for the Tigers with 60 assists while Matt Freitas had 27 kills, Bradley Hylander had 21 digs and three aces, Alvin Morisseau had 12 kills and three blocks, Josh Duncan had nine kills and a block, Owen Kelley had eight kills and 10 digs and Antonios Dimakis had five kills and three blocks. With the win, Taunton has now secured a Division I tournament berth.

Baseball: Bridgewater-Raynham vs. New Bedford

SCORE: New Bedford 4, Bridgewater-Raynham 1

HIGHLIGHTS: The Trojans secured the SEC title as Lily Welch tossed a five inning shutout giving up three hits and a walk while striking out 11. At the plate, Taylor Reid had two doubles and four RBIs, Lily Berman had three hits, two runs and two RBIs, Ava Selter had a home run and three RBIs and Jillianna Neves had a single, triple, two runs and an RBI.

Boys Track and Field: Bridgewater-Raynham at SEC Championship

RESULT: Second Place (102)

LOCATION: New Bedford High School

DATE: May 15

RECORD: 4-0 (4-0 SEC)

HIGHLIGHTS: Jack Alves, Kauan Bento and Declan Hetrick all took home a pair of gold medals for the Trojans, with Alves winning the two mile with a personal best time of 10:32.23 and serving as part of the 4x800 meter relay team along with Cole Bridges, Brian Peters and Ryan Hall that won with a time of 9:04.48, Bento winning the 100 meter with a time of 0:11.22 and the 200 meter with a time of 0:22.73 and Hetrick winning shot put with a personal best distance of 47'10.5" and discus with a season best distance of 131'4". Connor Johnson also took home gold as he won the 400 meter hurdles with a personal best time of 0:57.51.

Girls Track and Field: Bridgewater-Raynham at SEC Championship

RESULT: First Place (132)

LOCATION: New Bedford High School

DATE: May 15

RECORD: 4-0 (4-0 SEC)

HIGHLIGHTS: Camden Strandberg led the way for the champion Trojans with three gold medals as she won the mile with a time of 5:58.2, the two mile with a time of 13:57.23 and the high jump with a height of 5'8". Brenna Woodbury won the 800 meter with a time of 2:28.4 and was part of the 4x400 meter relay team along with Ieva Piragis, Brianna Reid and Kayla O'Hara that won with a time of 4:20.77 while the 4x800 meter relay team of Lila Wilcox, Anna Stephen, Katie Corcoran and Elizabeth Misercola won with a time of 13:04.98 and O'Hara won javelin with a top throw of 106'4".
