Sports scores, highlights: Durfee baseball, softball sweep league opponent Brockton

The spring high school season is halfway through for Fall River area teams.

Here's a look at scores and highlights from Monday's action:

Softball: Durfee 13, Brockton 7

LOCATION: Brockton

DATE: May 15

RECORD: Durfee, 5-10

HIGHLIGHTS: The Hilltoppers took an early lead and held on from there, beating league opponent Brockton on the road. Emily Curran picked up the win in the circle for Durfee, scattering seven hits, two earned runs, two walks while striking out seven. She also helped herself with a pair of hits, scored two runs and collected a pair of RBI. Katerina Rumsey had three hits and scored two runs. Other multiple hitters include Mia Jacob (run, two RBI), Niyah Boone (run, two RBI) and Rachael Silva (two runs, RBI). Kaitlyn Coutu chipped in with a hit and three RBI. Ava Amaral, Sophia Alfonso and Julia Rumsey each finished with a hit.

NEXT UP: The Hilltoppers travel to New Bedford on Wednesday.

Softball: Somerset Berkley 10, Old Rochester 0

HIGHLIGHTS: The Raiders blanked league opponent Old Rochester at home. Brooke Crombie went the distance for SBR, allowing four hits, three walks and fanned eight batters. Offensively, Emma Javier went 3-for-4, including a double and RBI. Gabriella Nugent had a pair of hits, a double and two RBI. Sydney Bednarz was 2-for-4 with a double and RBI. Victoria DeMatteo finished with a double and RBI. Julia Costa and Cali Leger each had a hit and RBI.

NEXT UP: The Raiders travel to Apponequet on Wednesday.

Softball: Case 24, Wareham 0

LOCATION: Wareham

DATE: May 15

RECORD: Case, 15-0 (10-0 in South Coast Conference)

HIGHLIGHTS: The undefeated Cardinals scored often and early in a win against league opponent Wareham. Olivia Silva paved the way for Case with four hits, a home run and five RBI. Hailey Berube had three hits, including a pair of home runs and five RBI. Lexi Yost had three hits while Lily Picard and Ella Preston finished with two hits each. Megan Smith, Madilyn Botelho, Breanna Fontes, Skye Dupre, Anna Michaud, Meghan Pereira and Jamie Moniz each had a hit. Berube and Pereira combined to give up just three hits.

NEXT UP: The Cardinals face Bishop Stang on Thursday.

Softball: Southeastern 9, Diman 6

RECORD: Diman, 7-5 (4-4 in Mayflower Large)

HIGHLIGHTS: The Bengals lost late against league opponent Southeastern at home. Kacie Lynch went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Nadia Ponte had a hit and an RBI. Hannah Martin also had a hit, a sacrifice bunt and an RBI. Courtney Boies finished with a hit and a stolen base while Danielle Mello and Alexah Pedder each had a hit. Ashley Carvalho started the game and left in the fifth inning. Ponte finished the game in relief.

NEXT UP: The Bengals travel to Seekonk on Tuesday.

Softball: Atlantis Charter 14, Randolph 11

LOCATION: Atlantis Charter

DATE: May 15

RECORD: Atlantis Charter, 5-1

HIGHLIGHTS: The Tritons won a wild game against Randolph at home. Catcher Adriana Bates played a great game for Atlantis Charter behind the plate, coaching pitcher Madyson Silva. Gracie Cohill, Angelina Swenson, and Kylee Couture each had a solid game.

NEXT UP: The Tritons face South Shore Christian Academy on Tuesday.

Baseball: Durfee 9, Brockton 5

LOCATION: Brockton

DATE: May 15

RECORD: Durfee, 6-9 (3-3 in Southeast Conference)

HIGHLIGHTS: The Hilltoppers won their second straight game, beating league opponent Brockton. Alexis Montilla led the offense for Durfee, going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Jayden Espinal, Ethan Cambra and Josh Boria each had two hits. Boria got the win on the mound, pitching five innings. He gave up five runs on six hits, six strikeouts and one walk. Aidan Travers pitched the final two innings, striking out four batters.

NEXT UP: The Hilltoppers face New Bedford on Wednesday.

Baseball: Somerset Berkley 4, Old Rochester 2

LOCATION: Old Rochester

RECORD: Somerset Berkley, 13-3

HIGHLIGHTS: The Raiders pushed across three runs late to come behind to beat league opponent Old Rochester on the road. Jon Lynch went the distance for SBR, striking out four batters. Owen Derocher led the way offensively with a pair of hits. Tyler Costa and Jayden Cruz each finished with a hit.

NEXT UP: The Raiders host Seekonk on Thursday.

Baseball: Case 9, Wareham 3

LOCATION: Wareham

DATE: May 15

RECORD: Case, 5-10 (2-8 in South Coast Conference)

HIGHLIGHTS: The Cardinals won a league game against Wareham at home. Jacob Poitras pitched 6⅔ innings on the hill for Case, allowing six hits, three earned runs while striking out seven. He also went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI at the plate. Offensively, Will LeBoeuf was 4-for-4 with two runs scored, an RBI, and two stolen bases. Christian Chapman chipped in with with a run scored and an RBI while Ben Duquette added a two-run single.

NEXT UP: The Cardinals host Westport on Tuesday.

Baseball: Bishop Connolly 19, Rising Tide

LOCATION: Plymouth

DATE: May 15

RECORD: Bishop Connolly, 9-4 (3-3 in Mayflower Comprehensive)

HIGHLIGHTS: The Cougars clinched a berth in the state tournament after beating non league opponent Rising Tide on the road. James Russell was credited with the victory for Connolly. The right-hander went six innings, allowing four runs, seven hits, struck out five and walked one. Jaydyn Pavao threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Connor Travis, Nate Rezendes, and Pavao each collected three hits. Russell, Jason Varera, and Jayden Souza each had multiple hits. The Cougars finished with 17 hits. Connolly was down 4-0 going into the top of the sixth and exploded for 12 runs in the inning.

NEXT UP: The Cougars host Wareham on Thursday.

Boys Tennis: Taunton 4, Durfee 1

LOCATION: Fall River

DATE: May 15

RECORD: Durfee, 7-6

HIGHLIGHTS: The Hilltoppers drop four of five matches against non-league opponent Taunton. Tim Archambault and Jesse Tamba was Durfee's lone winners at second doubles, 6-4, 6-3.

NEXT UP: The Hilltoppers host New Bedford on Tuesday.

Girls Tennis: Bishop Stang 5, Diman 0

LOCATION: Diman

DATE: May 15

RECORD: Diman, 9-2 (5-0 in Mayflower Large)

HIGHLIGHTS: The Bengals dropped a home match against top seed Bishop Stang. Both singles and doubles players for Diman each lost in straight sets to the Spartans.

NEXT UP: The Bengals host Diman on Wednesday.

Girls Tennis: Fairhaven 5, Westport 0

LOCATION: Westport

DATE: May 15

RECORD: Westport, 3-7 (3-2 in Mayflower Comprehensive)

HIGHLIGHTS: The Wildcats lost to Fairhaven in five matches. The best effort for Westport on the day came from the second doubles spot where seventh grader Abby Forbes and senior Olivia Morris lost a close one 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 7-10.

NEXT UP: The Wildcats travel to face Diman on Wednesday.

Girls Tennis: Nantucket 5, Bishop Connolly 0

LOCATION: Bishop Connolly

DATE: May 15

RECORD: Bishop Connolly, 1-10 (0-5 in Mayflower Comprehensive)

HIGHLIGHTS: The Cougars dropped their last-ever match played at Connolly to a solid Nantucket squad. Sam Holt and Allesandra Arruda lost a well played match at second doubles, losing 3-6, 4-6.

NEXT UP: The Cougars face Maimonides School next.

Girls Outdoor Track: Durfee at Southeast Conference meet

LOCATION: New Bedford

DATE: May 15

RECORD: N/A

HIGHLIGHTS: The Hilltoppers girst track team finished in third place at the SEC Conference championships. Shakira Cadet won the long jump, triple jump, and 100 meter dash for Durfee in her last conference meet. Jasmine DoSouto won the discus with her fourth consecutive personal-best, throwing 101’6”. She also won the shot put. Alexandria Lapointe placed second in the 100 hurdles and finished third in the high jump. Toni Freitas finished second in the mile. Abigail Saunders finished in fifth place in the 400 hurdles.

NEXT UP: The Hilltoppers will compete at the MSTCA South Shore Twilight Meet on Saturday.

Boys Outdoor Track: Durfee at Southeast Conference championships

LOCATION: New Bedford

DATE: May 15

RECORD: N/A

HIGHLIGHTS: The Hilltoppers came in fourth place at the at the SEC Conference championships. Aidan Lanciault took first place in the 400 and placed second in both the high jump and triple. Teammate Josh Sanon took first place in the triple jump.

NEXT UP: The Hilltoppers will compete at the MSTCA South Shore Twilight Meet on Saturday.

Boys Volleyball: Durfee 3, Dighton-Rehoboth 0

LOCATION: Dighton-Rehoboth

DATE: May 15

RECORD: Durfee, 7-9

HIGHLIGHTS: The Hilltoppers swept all three games  — 26-24, 25-14 and 25-22 — against non-league opponent Dighton-Rehoboth. Jack Gauvin had 20 assists and 8 digs for Durfee. Chris Milfort finished with 12 kill shots and Anthony Grannum had 10 kill shots in the win.

NEXT UP: The Hilltoppers host Brockton on Wednesday.
