Spartanburg area's top performers in high school athletics for week of Jan 1-7

Here are some of the Spartanburg area’s top high school athletics performers for the week of Jan. 1-7.

Boys basketball

Landon Sprouse, Boiling Springs: Sprouse had 38 points in a 74-59 win against J.L. Mann and then 30 points in a 71-65 win against Hillcrest.

Reese Walter, Boiling Springs: Walter scored 19 points against J.L. Mann.

Ja’Coreyun Broadus, Broome: Broadus scored 20 points in a 47-44 win against Chapman.

Will Fowler, Byrnes: Fowler scored a career-high 41 points in an 85-78 win against T.L. Hanna.

Zenai Davis, Oakbrook Prep: Davis had 29 points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots in a 71-55 win against the Greenville Hurricanes. He had another double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds in a 66-53 loss to High Point.

Girls basketball

Sarah Ezell, Boiling Springs: Ezell scored 18 points in a 55-32 win against Hillcrest.

Natalie Trudell, Boiling Springs: Trudell also had 18 points.

Te'Ericka Dowling, Byrnes: Dowling led Byrnes to a 65-57 upset of No. 1-ranked defending state champion Mauldin by scoring 30 points. Downing also went over the 1,000-point mark for her career.

Nakiya Kelly, Dorman: Kelly scored 15 points and had eight rebounds in a 77-23 win against Shelby (N.C.).

Kam Sainvil, Spartanburg: Sainvil set a Spartanburg single-game record with 13 assists in an 89-17 win against Union County. She broke a mark set by Brittany Carson, who had 12 assists in a 2006-07 game.

Wrestling

Harrison Brafford, Boiling Springs: Brafford beat 24 other competitors to win the 144-pound division of the Bearcat Invitational in Rock Hill. He is only the third wrestler from Boiling Springs to win at the event.

Conner Beaudin, Byrnes: Beaudin won his division in the Bearcat Invitational.

Enahjay Fowler, Dorman: Fowler led Dorman to a third-place finish among 17 teams at the West-Oak Warrior Invitational and was named Most Outstanding Wrestler.
