Southside Christian baseball holds off wild rally, is one win from SCHSL state title

Southside Christian baseball held on tight during a nerve-racking final inning to beat Latta 8-6 Monday night in the first game of the Class A high school state championship series.

The Sabres (26-7) can wrap up the best-of-three series at home 6 p.m. Tuesday. If Latta (23-13) forces a third game, it will be at a neutral site.

Southside Christian seemed to be cruising to victory behind six no-hit innings from ace pitcher Carson Bolemon and an eight-run lead with only three outs left for the bullpen to handle.

Those outs were tough to get.

Latta scored six times and had the tying run at the plate when the rally finally ended.

Bolemon finished with 14 strikeouts, one walk and no runs.

Kolby Sentelle was 2-for-2 with a triple, two RBIs and a run scored. Nelson Vaughan was 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs. Jacob Wiggs drove in two runs and Bolemon had two hits.

Powdersville falls in first game of AAA series

Powdersville baseball dropped Game 1 of the Class AAA state championship series 9-5 at Hanahan.

The Patriots will play host at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and try to force a deciding game in the best-of-three series at a neutral site. They are seeking their first title.

Braden Williams and Landon Fowler slugged home runs for Powdersville (23-10) in the first three innings of a 3-3 game. Hanahan (30-3) kept hitting, however, and three runs in the sixth made it 9-3.

Williams had three of Powdersville’s six hits.
