Southern wins opener; Northern routs Meyersdale; Washington beats Keyser; Paw Paw 2-0

Dec. 11—CUMBERLAND — The first game of the post-Tom Bosley era at Southern Garrett ended in victory, as the Rams cruised past Francis Scott Key, 58-41, at Bob Kirk Arena on Saturday.

Jared Haskiell scored a game-high 21 points to end in double figures alongside Isaiah Keller (13) and Joel Campbell (10).

Southern (1-0), guided by first-year coach Hunter Broadwater, led 31-24 at the half and outscored FSK, 27-17, after halftime.

Jordan Fulmore finished with 12 points to top Francis Scott Key.

Southern hosts Frankfort on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Northern 72 Meyersdale 35

MEYERSDALE, Pa. — Five players finished in double figures as a balanced Northern attack routed Meyersdale on Friday night.

The Huskies jumped out to a 19-5 lead after the first quarter, 35-17 at the half and 51-27 after three periods.

Abe Schilpp tallied a team-high 14 points, and Devin McKenzie (12), Luke Ross (12), Robbie Rollman (11) and Alex Knauff (10) also ended in double figures.

Malachi Carr ended with a game-high 16 points to lead the way for Meyersdale.

The Huskies won the junior varsity contest 42-21. Jayden McNally and Caleb Hinebaugh led the way for Northern with 15 and 11 points, respectively.

Northern (1-0) hosts Allegany (1-0) on Tuesday.

Washington 71 Keyser 66

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — Patrick Liller and Noah Broadwater each surpassed 20 points for Keyser, but it wasn't enough in a 71-66 loss to Washington on Friday.

Patrick Liller led the Golden Tornado (1-1) with 23 points. He scored 10 of his 16 second-half points in the fourth quarter.

Liller made five 3-pointers including two in the fourth.

Broadwater scored 20 points with 10 in each half. He hit a pair of 3-pointers in the second quarter. He also finished with a double-double with 12 rebounds and he had eight assists.

DJ Boardley led all scorers with 24 points for the Patriots. He scored 15 in the first half and hit four 3-pointers.

Chet Gore added 17 points, shooting 6 for 6 at the free-throw line.

Josh McCarthy scored 12 with a pair of 3-pointers.

Washington won the junior varsity game 54-38.

Braylon Berry led the Patriots with 15 points. Ja'Kel Watkins and Avorie Brown each scored 12.

Grayson Lambka and Corbyn Duckworth led the Golden Tornado with 12 points each.

Keyser is at Mountain Ridge on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Paw Paw wins two

PAW PAW, W.Va. — Donovan Tanouye poured in 20-plus points in back-to-back games to guide Paw Paw to wins over Mountain View (Virginia) and Union to begin the season.

Tanouye's game-high 24 points led Paw Paw over Mountain View on Thursday in the Pirates season opener, and he scored 15 in the first half, including 11 in the second quarter.

Dreden Heath scored 13 with 11 in the second half for Paw Paw.

Devin Michael led Mountain View (1-3) with 10 points, scoring seven in the first half.

Landon Denku added eight for the Conquerors.

Paw Paw led 27-15 at halftime and outscored Mountain View 28-18 in the second half.

A day later, Tanouye tallied 28 points in a 55-47 victory over Union. Greyson Corbett added 10 points, Taylor Carder notched eight, Aiden Crabtree chipped in five and Heath four.

Union led 15-10 after the first quarter and 28-18 at the half due to 14 first-half points from Braylon Ward — who ended with 22 points.

Paw Paw outscored Union, 37-19, after halftime to come back and improve to 2-0.

The Pirates host Salisbury (2-1) on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
