SouthCoast high school scores and highlights from Thursday, May 11

Here's a look at the scores and highlights from Thursday's high school action on the SouthCoast.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

BC High 3, New Bedford 1

On a kill by Januel Acosta in the second set, junior setter Carter Barbosa reached his 1,000th career assist for New Bedford (7-7, 1-1). He finished the game with 26 assists and nine service points. Dilson DaCosta Teixeira led the Whalers with nine kills while Acosta added six. Connor Silva had 15 digs.

GNB Voc-Tech 3, Taunton 1

Evan Fagundes had a career-high 33 assists to go along with nine digs. Curran Farnworth had 14 kills, 17 digs and one ace while Colin Stuessi had seven kills, 11 digs and two aces. Camden Morin (seven kills), Serrone Ramos (four kills and seven blocks), Tayshaun Andrade (16 digs and seven service aces) and Jacob Belli (seven kills and three solo blocks) also contributed. The Bears (11-2, 5-1) visit Quincy on Monday.

BASEBALL

Apponequet 1, Somerset Berkley 0

The Lakers kept their postseason hopes alive with a thrilling upset of SCC-leading Somerset Berkley. Caiden Cyr drove in Dylan Bradley for the winning run in the first inning. Cyr had two hits for the game while Bradley (double), Brody Joly (double), Lucas Tremblay and Justin Serrecchia each had a hit. Nate Levesque was outstanding on the mound, pitching a 71-pitch complete-game shutout, yielding three hits and no walks while striking out four. Austyn Travis threw another would-be stealer out from his catcher's position in the fifth inning at a crucial part of the game. The Lakers (6-9, 5-6 SCC) travel to D-R on Monday.

Old Colony 17, Cape Cod Tech 6

All nine Cougars in the lineup had at least one hit, one run scored and an RBI as Old Colony punched its ticket to the playoffs. Leading the way was Matt McGuiggan (3-for-4 with a walk, an RBI and four runs scored) and Ryan Silva (3-for-4 with a walk, triple, four RBIs and a run scored). Chase LaFountain got the win, allowing two earned runs on five hits and four walks while striking out seven over six innings.

SOFTBALL

Dartmouth 6, New Bedford 3

Down 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Dartmouth scored two runs on an error. Olivia Rapoza led Dartmouth with two hits. Megan Arruda got the win, allowing three runs on three hits while striking out five over seven innings. Hayleigh Chenard took the loss for New Bedford, allowing six runs on five hits while striking out two. The Whalers had singles from Sophia Perry, Amelia Davis and Annabelle Huston. New Bedford (7-6, 3-2 SEC) hosts Bridgewater-Raynham on Monday. Dartmouth (9-6, 3-3 SEC) will travel to North Attleboro on Monday.

Old Colony 10, Cape Cod Tech 8

With the Cougars down by two, Patty Spillane hit a walk-off triple in the bottom of the seventh inning. Spillane finished 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, five RBIs and three runs scored. Kayleigh DeSousa was 2-for-5 with a stolen base, a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Felicity Kulak went 3-for-3 with a double, two-run home run and three RBIs. Kulak went the distance, allowing four earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out seven. The Cougars (7-6, 7-3 MAC Small) host Tri-County on Monday.

Seekonk 6, Apponequet 5

Marissa Kelly went 3-for-4 with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs scored to lead the Lakers. Apponequet (7-7, 5-3 SCC) hosts Dighton-Rehoboth on Monday.

Carver 13, Wareham 8

Marina Cadena and Jolee Anderson both went 2-for-3. Cadena had a double, RBI and run scored while Anderson had a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Jossalyn Anctil was 2-for-5 with a stolen base and two runs scored while Madison Nereu went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and two runs scored. Olivia LaCava (RBI), Savannah Varden (1-for-4 with an RBI and run scored), Emily Brundage (RBI) and Emily Mancuso (1-for-4 with an RBI) also contributed for Wareham (1-11, 0-10 SCC).

GIRLS LACROSSE

Fairhaven 11, Dighton-Rehoboth 7

Kaylei Joseph notched four goals while Sophia Murray had three goals and one assist. Sydney Burke scored twice and Christina Pimentel (assist) and Carlie Francis had one goal apiece. The Blue Devils (9-3-1, 9-0 SCC) visit New Bedford High at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

Dartmouth 17, Bridgewater-Raynham 8

Grace Haskell led Dartmouth with seven goals and two assists while Ava Crane had five goals and three assists. Kayla McGee (two goals and three assists), Sarah Kelly (one goal and four assists), Isabel Fera (one goal and one assist) and Madison Goldizen (one goal) also contributed. Courtney Cabral made six saves. Dartmouth (11-1, 3-0 SEC) visits Apponequet on Monday.

BOYS LACROSSE

Bourne 14, GNB Voc-Tech 10

Dighton-Rehoboth 12, GNB Voc-Tech 9

Nathan Pearson notched six goals and two assists while Kaiden Pequita had three goals and one assist for Voc-Tech (2-10, 0-9 SCC). AJ Pragana had four assists. Nicholas Boucher went 15 for 29 face-offs and added an assist while Brayden Webster had 18 saves in net. Against D-R, Pearson had three goals and three assists while Pequita had three goals and two assists. Kevin O’Brien had one goal and was 13 of 19 on face-offs. Pragana and Brady Finn each added a goal and an assist. Webster made 16 saves. The Bears (2-11, 0-10 SCC) visit Fairhaven on May 17.

GIRLS TRACK

Dartmouth 76, Durfee 56

Winners for Dartmouth (2-2, 2-2 SEC) were Haley Zexter in the 400 hurdles and 100 hurdles, Ava Oliveira in the 100 dash, Katie Canniff in the 400, Sydney Almeida in the triple jump, Brooke Davis in the 800 and Teagan Cloutier in the javelin. Dartmouth will compete Monday in the SEC championship at New Bedford High.

Case 78, Apponequet 57

Winners for Apponequet (1-4) were Morgan Hayward in the long jump (14-10) and the 400 hurdles (72.7), Orianna Hernandez in the 400 meters (70.9), Reagan Flynn in the 100 (12.8), and Bella Sergio in the 800 (2:40).

BOYS TRACK

Apponequet 76, Case 54

Winners for Apponequet (1-4, 1-4 SCC) were Taber Lawler in the javelin (142), Dane Magpayo in the 100 (11.6), Andrew Florestal in the mile (5:05), Nathan Furtado in the 2-mile (11:35), Tyler Gray in the 800 (2:15), Joshua Snyder in the 200 (23.5), Rowen Jensen in the 400 hurdles (70.7) and Aydan Fournier in the 400 (54.1)

BOYS TENNIS

Apponequet 3, Old Rochester 2

The Lakers got wins from No. 1 Will Horton over Jacob Hadley (6-0, 6-0), No. 2 Nate Belmore over Alexander Harrigan (6-1, 6-0) and the first doubles team of Jason Demers and Ethan Clark over Peter LeGassick and David Costa (6-4, 6-3). For Old Rochester, Markus Pierre beat Judson Cardinali 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 at third singles and the second doubles team of Ethan Miguel and Jed Dupre beat Jake Correia and Ryan Abreau 7-5, 6-4. The Lakers (12-0, 8-0 SCC) visit Bourne on May 16.

Fairhaven 5, Case 0

The Blue Devils (8-2) got wins from No. 1 Kole Pinto (6-0, 6-1), No. 2 Isaac Petruski (6-0, 6-0), No. 3 Coby Yin (6-0, 6-0), the first doubles team of Chris Hu and Alex Hu (6-2, 6-3) and the second doubles team of Jesse Chen and Jacob Medeiros (6-3, 7-5).

Bourne 5, Wareham 0

The Vikings fell to 0-14 overall and 0-10 in the SCC.

GIRLS TENNIS

Fairhaven 5, Case 0

The undefeated Blue Devils (9-0, 8-0 SCC) swept singles action with wins from No. 1 Elizabeth DaCunha (6-3, 6-0), No. 2 Sabrina Zheng (6-0, 6-1) and No. 3 Min Wu (6-0, 6-0). The first doubles team of Abbey Lopes and Olivia Darmofal won 6-0, 6-2 while Abby Thomas and Katherine St. Amand were 6-0, 6-1 winners at No. 2.

Old Rochester 4, Apponequet 1

The Bulldogs (8-1, 8-0 SCC) got wins from No. 1 Neva Matos over Kohana Fontinha (6-1, 6-2), No. 2 Macy Ingham over Brynn McGaughlin (6-2, 6-0), the first doubles team of Gabby Berg and Mari Sudofsky over Lila Nielsen and Liz Ashley (6-3, 6-4) and the second doubles team of Liz Houdelette and Delaney Chase over Emma Lehane and Jolie Decas (6-0, 6-0). Apponequet’s lone win came at third singles, where Jillian Maher beat Caroline Houdelette 6-3, 6-4.

Bridgewater-Raynham 5, New Bedford 0

The Whalers fall to 3-10 overall and 1-6 in the SEC.
