SouthCoast high school scores and highlights from Friday, June 2

Here's a look at the scores and highlights from Friday's high school action on the SouthCoast.

SOFTBALL

Dartmouth 3, Danvers 2

With the game tied at two in the bottom of the sixth inning, Megan Arruda doubled to drive in the winning run in the Div. 2 Round of 32. Dartmouth scored a run on a sacrifice fly by Hannah Garcia in the fifth inning. Arruda struck out five while allowing two runs on nine hits and one walk over seven innings. Arruda, Sofia Dias and Olivia Rapoza each had two hits for Dartmouth. Dartmouth (13-8) awaits its opponent in the Sweet 16.

Dedham 3, Bishop Stang 1

Hannah Fortin went the distance, allowing two earned runs on three hits and four walks while striking out eight over seven innings in the Div. 3 Round of 32. Avery Clough was 1-for-2 while Katie Manzone went 1-for-3. The No. 16 Spartans finished the year with a record of 8-11.

GIRLS TENNIS

Fairhaven 5, Diman 0

The No. 10 Blue Devils opened the Div. 3 playoffs with a sweep over the 23rd-seeded Bengals thanks to wins from No. 1 Elizabeth DaCunha (6-4, 6-2), No. 2 Sabrina Zheng (5-7, 6-2, 6-4), No. 3 Min Wu (6-0, 6-1), the first doubles team of Abbey Lopes and Olivia Darmofal (6-2, 6-0) and the second doubles team of Abby Thomas and Katherine St. Amand. Fairhaven (16-1) will visit No. 7 Pembroke on Monday in the Sweet 16.

Old Rochester 4, Ashland 1

The No. 11 Bulldogs got wins from No. 1 Neva Mattos (6-0, 6-0), No. 2 Molly Dupre (6-0, 6-0), No. 3 Caroline Houdelette (6-4, 6-5) and the first doubles team of Gabby Berg and Lila Galavotti to advance to the Div. 3 Sweet 16. ORR will visit No. 6 Medfield (12-4) at 4 p.m. on Monday

Sharon 4, Dartmouth 1

Annica Dupre rallied back after dropping the first set 3-6 to tie the second set 5-5 before Sharon called the match, giving her Dartmouth’s lone win. Adeline Ablett and Julia Caron lost in a tight battle at first double 6-4, 3-6, 4-10 tie break. Seniors Nayan Bala, Alexandra Cojocaru, Brontë Massucco, and Ana Oliveira lost their matches, but fought until the end and left it all on the court. “An eventful match starting in blistering heat reaching the mid 90s and ending with high winds, thunder, lightning and torrential rains,” said Dartmouth head coach Maggie Frye. Dartmouth finished the year 14-6 overall.

BOYS LACROSSE

Bishop Stang 11, Lowell Catholic 2

Andrew Lally led the Spartans to victory with seven goals in the preliminary round of the Div. 3 tournament. Eli Ikkela and John Goll each scored twice. Will Sanders and Henry Brown were outstanding in net for Stang.  The No. 32 Spartans (13-4) travel to top-seeded Norwell (14-3) at 4 p.m. on Monday for a Round of 32 matchup.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Bishop Feehan 17, New Bedford 5

The No. 37 Whalers lost to 28th-seeded Bishop Feehan in the preliminary round of the Div. 1 state tournament to finish the year with an overall record of 14-5.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

BC High 3, New Bedford 1

The No. 19 Whalers lost 25-20, 19-25, 21-25, 23-25 to 14th-seeded BC High in the Div. 1 Round of 32. Carter Barbosa had 31 assists and 14 digs while Dilson DaCosta Teixeira led the offense with 10 kills and Nick Rosa added nine. Ronis Ayala had six. Connor Silva chipped in with 13 digs. New Bedford finished the season 13.-8.
