SouthCoast in Action: Week 2 of Whaling City Youth Baseball

Here's a look at the second week of action for Whaling City Youth Baseball.

Monday, May 6

South Coast Towing 6, Palace Pizza 2: Brayden Douglas and Cam Messier were locked in to start the week for the Tow Company as the dynamic duo would combine to scatter just four Palace hits while striking out six. Jose Martinez started the scoring with a home run in the first inning to stake his team to an early lead that they would never relinquish. Messier, Douglas, and Brayden Oliver all contributed at the plate. Oliver had two hits with the big blow being a bases clearing three-RBI triple in the fourth inning. Liam Cubero continued his fine play for the Pizza Crew with two hits. With the win South Coast improves to 3-0 on the season.

Apex Electrical 10, A. C. G. 0: Ethan Dube was the winning pitcher for Apex. He went the distance for the Electric Company in a complete-game effort that the big righthander struck out 15 and allowed just one A.C.G. hit. Colton Stupalski checked in with his first career hit, an RBI double. Jared Nunes, Dakota Gamage, Jared Nunes, Triton Pacheco and Isaiah Figueroa also had key hits to pace the Apex offense to their second win of the season. Tony Correia had the lone hit for A. C. G.

Tremblay Bus 10, Wonder Bowl 0: Syncere Lugo was the winning pitcher as he tossed the first three innings, striking out nine Wonder Bowl hitters and did not allow a hit when he handed the ball to his teammate Own Baptista, who came on in relief. Baptista was also outstanding on the hill; he allowed just one hit and struck out six. Tucker Wilcox had a great game hitting out of the leadoff spot as the lefty hitter ripped a base hit and scored twice for the Bus Company. Baptista also scored twice to support his own cause for Tremblay. Jayce Nova had the lone Wonder Bowl hit.

Tuesday, May 7

DeBross Oil 3, T.S. Sports 0: Austin Rodrigues is the leadoff hitter for DeBross Oil and in his first two at bats he cracked two solid base hits, and he would eventually come around and score for his team, and if not for the outstanding defensive play of T.S. Sports first baseman Yaniel Fernandes would have had a big extra base hit. Fernandes made a full extension snag of a line drive down the first base line. Logan Pacheco was in complete control on the mound as he pitched a complete-game one-hitter, striking out 13 while not walking a batter. Ben Bedard and Parker Pacheco both had first inning RBI hits to stake the Oilers to an early lead. T. S. Sports catcher Jackson Libby ripped a base hit to account for the only hit for his team. DeBross improves to 3-0 with the win.

Tremblay Bus 4, Kitchens & Baths 3: The Kitchen Crew jumped out to a three-run lead in the top of the first inning, which was started off by James Reardon, Corey Bonds, Myles Sequeira and Nolan Sousa. The four teammates all were instrumental in getting their team off to a fast start. Tremblay answered the three runs with four runs of their own in the bottom of the third inning to take go ahead for good. Noah Landers was hit by a pitch, Tucker Wilcox, Owen Baptista, and Issac Teixeira would all reach base and eventually score driven in by hits by Teixeira and Syncere Lugo. Issac Teixeira was credited with the win for the Bus Company. Teixeira pitched five full innings as he allowed seven hits, three runs and struck out 10 Kitchens & Baths hitters.

Amaral’s Linguica 15, N. B. Fire 1: Aviana Pacheco came on in relief to make her first pitching appearance and she did not disappoint. After Jack Fleurent pitched the first inning striking out three, Fleurent gave up one hit, a inside the park home run to New Bedford Fire’s J. C. Robles. Pacheco would then finish the game on the mound as she did not allow another hit, and struck out eight. Pacheco also contributed offensively scoring twice. Blake Hallett had a hit and an RBI, the Fleurent brothers remained hot at the plate, driving in two runs each. Ben Bernardo and Maverick Andrew also scored multiple runs to pace the Amaral’s offense. With the win, Amaral’s improves to 3-0 on the season.

Thursday, May 9

T. S. Sports 12, Table 8 Restaurant 2: Yaniel Fernandes, Wesley Rodrigues, and Carter Correia combined to limit Table 8 Restaurant to two hits and struck out 14. Fernandes did not allow a hit over his 2 ⅓ innings on the mound. He also had a fine day with his bat as he reached base four times, three of those times with solid base hits. Julian Baker checked in with his first career hit for T.S. Sports and drove in an RBI as well. Wesley Rodrigues knocked in two first inning runs to stake his team to an early lead. Derek Dallaire, Issac Couto, Kason Soares, and Jackson Libby had hits for T. S. Sports. Tae Rose and Austin Bumpus each had hits for Table 8 Restaurant.

Apex Electrical 6, LeBeau’s 4: Isaiah Figueroa picked up the win in relief for the defending champions. Dakota Gamage started for Apex and struck out eight of LeBeau’s hitters before leaving the game with his team leading 3-2. LeBeau’s would take the lead in the top of the fifth inning when Mason Graveson singled, advanced when Owen Viera reached base on an error and scored on a fielder’s choice, and Viera would score the lead run on a Landon Madeira triple. Apex would rally in the bottom of the fifth inning when Figueroa led off with a bunt single, he would score on a Ruben Vazquez triple, with Vazquez scoring on an infield error on the same play. Ethan Dube was then intentionally walked and he scored the eventual winning run after advancing to third base and scoring on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Jared Nunes. With the win, Apex improves to 3-1 on the season.

Kitchens & Baths 11, Dave’s 7 (7 innings): James Reardon started and pitched the first five innings; Corey Bonds pitched the sixth and A.J. Gracie came on in the bottom of the seventh to close to help lead K & B to the win. Reardon scored twice, Bonds chipped in with two hits, Myles Sequeira rapped out two hits, Jameson Silva chipped in three hits, and Nolan Sousa drove in two runs for the kitchen crew. Dave’s had an equally impressive night. Sean Pimental had three hits, Jaedyn Clark, Richie Gaskins, Angelo Debortoli, and Maddox Santos all were key contributors offensively as both teams were deadlocked at 7-7 after six complete innings. In the top of the seventh inning, the K & B crew would rise to the occasion. Corey Bonds would reach base on an error, followed by Myles Sequeira who drew a walk. Setting the stage for A.J. Gracie, who stepped to the plate and promptly knocked in two runs to give the lead, as well as the eventual winning runs to Kitchens & Baths. Gracie had a great game, driving in four runs on the night.

Amaral’s Linguica 9, Palace Pizza 1: The third inning proved to be the big inning for Amaral’s. Sparked by a Trey Camacho walk, an Ariana Pacheco line drive base hit to left field, and Blake Hallett reaching base, they would all score when Jack Fleurent and Ben Bernardo would drive all three in to stake their team to a lead they would not relinquish. Amaral’s pitching was outstanding, as the trio of Ben Bernardo, Jack Fleurent, and Blake Hallett combined to strike out 15 Palace Pizza hitters, equally impressive is the fact that they did not walk a batter in the entire game. Nyrell Gonzalez, and Avery Ramos accounted for the Palace hits.

Table 8 Restaurant 8, N. B. Fire 3: Table 8 captured their first win of the season powered by the trio of Tae Rose, Kole Rollock, and Isaac DaSilva. The three combined on the mound to limit the Fire Department to just four hits in the game while striking out eleven in the process. The Fire department’s offense was led by J.C. Robles, T.J. Denault, Nolan Murphy, and Mike Cesolini, who accounted for their team's hits. Tae Rose had a fine game at the plate for Table 8 as he ripped a triple as well as a base hit that drove in two runs. Jeremiah Bailey also chipped in for the Breakfast Bunch by ripping two hits and driving in two runs as well.
